I'm in a "forced" double room. I really like my roommate, and we've made the room work with some creative rearranging so it's doable. We've put in the paperwork for an actual double room but it doesn't look like it's going to happen anytime soon, plus we like the people on our floor. But, from a financial standpoint, Cornell bills $8480 for a single room. There are two of us crammed into a technically single room that now generates $15,000 in revenue for the school. We have one dresser. There isn't room for two. Two would make the room break fire code. So, I'm thinking about the money end, and I'm wondering if it would be worth it to approach the housing office and ask for a refund or a break on the room rate. Any suggestions? Does anyone know if this has ever been attempted successfully?

i super highly doubt you will get a refund or any money back. they will prob just put you in another double

you should talk to someone OUTSIDE housing…

maybe your dean of academic studies or someone at day hall?
