Fordham/Ailey Audition

Hi, wondering if anyone has received an audition date yet?

@gmfalv Nope, still waiting and hoping!

@NevrMynd51 yes same. we were told they will start sending out audition invites/declines in December.

We put down the first December date as our choice so hoping to get that one and make it through

@gmfalv If we are so lucky as to make it through we will be doing the February 1st audition out here on the west coast, in Chula Vista

@NevrMynd51 keeping my fingers crossed for both of them!

have you guys had any other auditions lately?

@gmfalv Thanks and I will be praying for both of them as well. I know Ailey/Fordham was one of your DD top schools.

As for auditions, they all start for us in mid-January and run through mid-February. Thankfully the OOS schools all have live audition dates here on the west coast, so we are trying to take advantage of those dates.

Our daughter is a Junior at Ailey/Fordham, and as I recall invites went out the first or second week in December.

@corrigg that is what I remember too. Around the first week of December, but that was 2 years ago.

Just got our audition date for Ailey for December 11! Anyone else?

My D got her date it’s Dec 10…

My S got his audition date for February 2 here on the Left Coast!

@gmfalv @Momof3girls1273 Congrats to you DDs on making it past the pre-screening process, now prayer focus is on the auditions!

Excited, My DD got her audition date on the 27th. She will audition Feb. 23rd in Atlanta. Good luck to everyone.

My DD auditioned today and felt that it went well. Good luck to everyone. We were told we won’t get results until mid March.

Yes D auditioned yesterday too. Thought it went well- but surprisingly doesn’t like the program as much as she once did. Definitely dropped on her list.

@gmfalv that happened with my daughter 2 years ago. She was so excited for that audition and afterwards was not feeling it. It must have been mutual because she did not get in. When I think about auditions I believe it’s important if you are able to audition directly with the program and at their location. You get a sense of their teachers and what class would be like. Their facility is gorgeous but she really understood that you are sharing it with the professional company, their certificate program and recreational dancers.

My daughter did wanted a dance program where the BFA students were the priority for teachers, space, performances, and treatment if injured. She did not feel like the focus would be on the BFA students and did not enjoy the audition. All very useful information.

yeah, my D likes the program and felt she did well but it’s moved down on her list for sure!

The process is long but I think good to see all the different programs, now my D’s top choices are programs she wasn’t even really considering at the beginning - but went to the auditions and had an amazing experience.

@gmfalv What did the auditions consist of? S has his audition in February. Did you DD mention the quality of the dancers at the audition? And if there happened to be many male dancers?

@NevrMynd51 the audition was a ballet and modern class and then everyone did their solos and interview. she said the dancers were all pretty good for the most part and i don’t remember how many male dancers there were, but there was definitely at least one that i know of there.

shockingly, although she thought the audition went well, ailey has fallen a little from the top of her list. she liked the auditions better at NYU and Pace so far. so we’ll see what happens!

@gmfalv What caused Fordham to slip for your daughter? I thought that was her #1? We are doing the Pace audition on January 31 so we’ll see how that goes.

@NevrMynd51 she just did not like the audition as much as Pace’s or NYU’s so it dropped down a little for her. Good luck!
