You know, I am a bit surprised to hear that you are, in fact, using your race as an excuse for low math scores.

why isnt the qoute thing working?

Maybe because you spelled quote wrong

because you spelled quote' wrong ;)

It is NOT at all an excuse. I am telling people this, because it seems as though people think I am justifying my math scores, but in fact I just want everyone to stop accusing me of that, because I am not. Even if I was... well, you have to be an Afr. Amer. at my school to understand. To be honest, I never even knew that my ethnicity was a significant factor until a few months ago, when I went to an interview at Loyola College, and the counselor who interviewed me brought it up more than once. She mentioned how there was a lack of diversity and that the college was seeking more minorities, because most of the black students were athletes, and the percentage of minority students was like 10% or something.

It is no different than the students of the majority who will attend Yale this year with 3.5 high school GPA's (think of our preisdent who got in with C's- yes I said it) because their parents are alumni and have donated millions of dollars to the university.

Thanks for the opinions though.

did you take a lot of AP classes? did you play sports or anything

dude seriously u went to a private school for god's sakes and u blame SAT for being biased. DUDE take some responsibility for ur score and admit that u screwed up. Geez some people blame others for everything not wondering what they did wrong.

Actually, giving millions of dollars to a school and simply being a minority are very different things. If I gave Yale $100 million, I am contributing to Yale's future and allowing more financial aid for minority students. Being a minority is just...diversity. Admitting a student because their family has contributed to the long-term in Yale's eyes is different than wanting a diverse student body.

"If I gave Yale $100 million, I am contributing to Yale's future and allowing more financial aid for minority students. Being a minority is just...diversity"

I did screw up, but the thing is, we spent so much time preparing for the SAT's and my scores were not good; they did not reflect my preparation. So it bites.
Being a minority is part of diversity, and diversity, which is not limited to ethnicity, is key in college. If it was not, then schools would not care if their student body consisted of only athletes, or only pre-law students, or only females, etc. The world is a diverse place, college is supposed to help you prepare for the world. So, diversity is contributing VERY MUCH to any school's future, and allowing for students to thrive in a diverse environment.

Anyway all I ever asked was if it would be factor in my admission at any school.

fordham u have a good chance because you come from a catholic school (have a priest or nun give them a call). you have really bad shots at tcnj and american.

hey were are just trying to tell you the truth...dont have an attitude about it..... and this world runs on math, so no matter what you do, math is one subject that is related with every subject... and we are not saying you are not going to get in, but we are just saying it might affect you in getting in college.... if your essay and everything else is good and your classes in philosophy, then it will overcome your math scores.... then dont use minoriy as an excuse to get in.... urms are not even that popular unless your applying to top colleges.... and what about the next african american female, with:Courses:

EXCEPT 650 Math going for philosophy?
so you tell me

I think diversity is too often limited to just race i think it should mean more as far as AA. The people who should be given extra consideration , and only consideration, are those who are in tough financial situations that affects their schooling, and students who are the first to attend college, because for the most part they are virgins to a whole process and state of mind that has unfortunately not been instilled upon them by their parents because their parents didnt have the opportuinty to go to college and fully understand the implications of everything as far as high schools. But fair or not 1st or 4th generation college students have to make their decisions and in an equal the should be judged that way. The race factor cant be justified now as a factor, unless it is in use with the situations i mentioned above, but my idea also spreads AA to people of other races also
