FORDHAM, AMERICAN U, TCNJ- can i get in?

Hey I am an African American female, and I attend a reputable, challenging Catholic high school in New Jersey. Does anyone know anything about Fordham-Rose Hill, American University, or The College of New Jersey? I intend to major in philosophy. My stats are not great:

Also, my school didn't offer AP courses until sr yr, and it only offered latin for 2 years, and some of the clubs i'm in wren't created until jr or sr yr. My essay I hope was good, and I had a rec from a teacher, and guidance counselor. Could i get accepted to these schools regular decision ? I applied Jan 06

that math score really hurts you

Take the ACT and also try and bump up your Math SAT score - under a 500 is a major problem.

yea you need to increase your math by at least another 100 points... so go for 530 or its going to hurt you later on.

she already applied guys.

best of luck, I really am not sure.

Thanks for your help! So you think that I will probably be rejected with my math score, even though I am not majoring in a math related subject and I am of a cultural minority?
I have an additional question. Will the fact that I am majoring in philosophy help my chances, since it is a very unpopular major at all of the schools (TCNJ has about 50 total undergrad philosophy majors)?

Stop whoring your ethnicity. It's not an excuse for anything.

TCNJ looks at grades ALOT more than SATs

I got a 1400 and got rejected from TCNJ with a 2.9 GPA

Victoria,

What were your essays about? I think that it will help that you are a Philosophy major.

hey were are just trying to tell you the truth...dont have an attitude about it..... and this world runs on math, so no matter what you do, math is one subject that is related with every subject... and we are not saying you are not going to get in, but we are just saying it might affect you in getting in college.... if your essay and everything else is good and your classes in philosophy, then it will overcome your math scores.... then dont use minoriy as an excuse to get in.... urms are not even that popular unless your applying to top colleges.... and what about the next african american female, with:Courses: English- 4 years (3 years Honors)

Amen. I'm all for affirmative action, but it is people like you that screw up the system. You were born into a wealthy family and go to a private school, yet you try to use your race to make up for your lack of merit. There are thousands of other dirt poor African Americans in this country who have had to overcome difficulties and deserve to reap the benefits of AA. In your case, it shouldn't matter whether you are black, white or purple.

Tyyyyyyyyy Veryyyy Muchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

hey how do you do that qoute thing, where it highlighted?... i wanna do it to the one i qouted here whole stats

please tell me ec engineer

you first cut & paste into your message box, then you do [ quote ] at the start of the words, and [ quote ] at the end of the quoted words, but with no spaces.

Close, but not exactly correct. You type

, copy and paste or type what you want to quote, and then put [/ quote] at the end of it, without the space between the / and the word quote.

I can't believe how vicious some of these replies are...I truly hope that admissions people will look at your whole application and understand that candidates with math weaknesses can bring other strengths to their campuses. I hardly think Victoria is exploiting her ethnicity. It is a piece of who she is and a valid part of what the admissions people should look at when looking at the whole person. Good luck, Victoria!

There is a major difference between race being a part of admissions and the fact that she thinks she clearly "deserves" to get into a good school based on the fact that she is a cultural minority, even though she didn't have to face the struggles that many other African-Americans do. The first thing she said was "I am an African-American female." Do you think this is your most important asset in gaining admission to college? If you do then the world is truly screwed up.

Hey, sorry if I offended anyone and I was not trying to "Whore my ethnicitiy". Additionally, I did not claim to be wealthy. I do not want to be accepted ANYWHERE simply based on my ethnic group; I hope the admissions staff will look at ALL of my stats, and that is one aspect of me.
It's just a fact, not my opinion, that SAT's are culturally biased, and Afr. Amer. students score much lower on them than the national average.
The schools each required one essay, and I wrote it about the ways in which my father has influenced me. I also sent it to essayedge.com to be edited before I sent it , so I hope that will help. I believe that the end results were good...... I hope....
Will it help that I have a legacy advantage at TCNJ, or is that only a factor at private schools?
