Fordham - getting accepted

Hey i am just curious when i apply - do i have to pick a certain school?

I mean i want to apply for CBA but isnt that the hardest to get into?

How does the undergrad business school work? Like does everyone first go through 2 years of reg. classes then apply to school?

CBA is located in Rosehill its not really a campus or college within itself. And you take certain classes for the first 2 years that are required for all CBA majors. I dont understand by what you mean apply to school (last question)

you dont apply to business after 2 years
you apply to business freshman year

When you fill out your application, whether it is the Your Choice (usually free) or Common App, you will be asked to select a school. If you use the common app, this info will be on the supplement. You will be asked to pick between Fordham College at Lincoln Center, Fordham College at Rose Hill and the College of Business Administration. Lots of kids want business but check Fordham College at Rose Hill by mistake because it indicates Rose Hill. CBA is also at Rose Hill, just make sure you check business if that is what you want. If you forget to check a box and leave it entirely blank, you will automatically be applying to Fordham College at Rose Hill by default.

Also, FYI, Abby, some colleges admit you to a general freshman program, then after a year or sometimes two, you apply to the school where you want to major. Off the top of my head, Notre Dame and UNC both do this.

How much harder is the business school to get into then other majors.

oo..i didnt know one can do that. Interesting

Yea many schools do that (University of Michigan, Georgetown..).

Robert....CBA is not that hardest to get into; Fordham college Lincoln Center is. CBA is probably one of the easier schools, if not the easiest to get into (avg SAT 1220), whereas the avg SAT for Fordham as whole is about 1270.

You apply directly to CBA and start taking required classes towards the business major right away.

hey rob ... disregard that last post - he obviously has no clue what he's talking about. CBA is NOT the easiest school to get into. If anything, I would say LC is - lots of "artsy" people. The SAT average for CBA is NOT 1220 and the class of 2011 had an average SAT of 1230, not 1270. Starburykicks is just making up numbers. I wouldn't be surprised if he goes to Lincoln Center or another college. Nevertheless, Rose Hill is the main campus and Lincoln Center ... well ... they don't even have a campus =/

And Georgetown does NOT do that... I don't know where this kid gets his information...

First off LC has a campus however, the campus is not traditional. LC students are allowed to come to RH and sign up for clubs or any activities, it is after all Fordham. You make it seem as tho LC is not even part of Fordham. LC has many major not only the arts. The LC campus has evolved and change so i guess you should check your fact as well.

I graduated from CBA - its a fact that CBA is one of the easiest schools to get into. Obviously you have no clue what you're talking about. And buddy, the bottom 20% of the students score 1200 or less, you tell me how the SAT average is 1230 for Fordham. Class Profile

According to Business Week, Fordham CBA's average is 1177 but that statistic was taken from students 1-2 years back. I was assuming that statistic has significantly gone up with the quality of students Fordham has been taking. If anything, this proves my point that CBA is probably the easiest to get into.

Undergrad - BSchools

TO set the record straight, most students at LC score over a 1300 (out of 1600) on the SAT; they're the ones who bring the SAT average for the entire school up. So what if a lot of artsy people go there - that does not mean they are dumb, just look at NYU. I am not even a supporter of LC, being a graduate of CBA's class of 2008. However, I'm telling it like it is. Its smokydeber who has no clue.

So you're basically saying that CBA is the easiest because it has the lowest SAT average? And you're justifying this by citing a third party, Businessweek? That information, like you stated, is outdated - take a look at the cost of attendance.

Let's take a look at an article from Fordham's website : For the Class of 2011, It's First Day at Fordham

"And the average SAT score for this year’s class jumped 28 points, to 1,230"

1230, not 1270 ... just because the middle 50% had a range of 1200 - 1330 doesn't mean the school's mean is 1270. You should have paid more attention in stats.

You said, "I was assuming that statistic has significantly gone up with the quality of students Fordham has been taking. If anything, this proves my point that CBA is probably the easiest to get into." Ummmm, no it doesnt...

You also said, "TO set the record straight, most students at LC score over a 1300 (out of 1600) on the SAT; they're the ones who bring the SAT average for the entire school up." Where does it say this? Nowehere! You made it up!

Finally, I'd like to direct your attention to an article in The Observer, The Student Voice of Fordham University at Lincoln Center : FCLC Ranks Third Behind FCRH and CBA, Freshmen SAT Scores Rise - News

The title = "FCLC Ranks Third Behind FCRH and CBA, Freshmen SAT Scores Rise"

The article goes on to say ... "The average score of this year's FCLC freshman class is 1210, up from 1200 last year, he noted. CBA went from an average score of 1179 to 1229, and FCRH went from 1213 to 1239, Grimes said." Rev. Robert R. Grimes, S.J. is the Dean of FCLC - someone who i consider a reputable source.

So in regards to SAT scores, Rose Hill is the hardest to get into and Lincoln Center is the easiest. CBA is just 9 points below FCRH while FCLC is off 29 points. Of course, SAT scores aren't everything, but try telling that to starburyknicks.

When we went on the Fordham tour, the very question arose. The answer is that it varies from year to year. It depends on the who applies to Rose Hill, Lincoln Center and Business Administration in a given year. The SAT is not necessarily the critical factor in defining the selectivity of the school either. In a given year, more kids with higher SATs could be applying to a given category than the others. There are a lot of other factors involved. Rose Hill tends to be the campus of choice for the athletes, Lincoln Center for the performing arts. Students in those categories are often highly desired for other things than their test scores such as athletic prowess (recruited athletes) and audition talent.
Does Fordham ever offer an applicant who is applying to one campus or program the option to go to another if that applicant cannot be accommodated at the campus of choice but could at the other?

That's very shocking - just from knowing many of the students at Lincoln Center, I felt that many of the students scored above a 1300. I know when I enrolled at Fordham (2005), CBA was the easiest school to get into and most of my peers had subpar high school statistics. Well, anyways, thanks for enlightening me. That makes me happier since I'm a CBA alum - guess that adds value to my degree, knowing that the quality of students Fordham is taking is improving. I know SAT does not reveal much but thats how rankings are influenced since the general perception of the school increases with increased SAT scores.

Yeah, so it seems like FU in general is on the rise. Sorry if I was a d*ck, i just thought you were trying to trash CBA or something (i'm headed there in the fall). Congrats on graduating.

Congrats Smokydber -yea Fordham keeps getting better each and every year. You are entering Fordham at a very good and exciting time. Regardless of the quality of students CBA takes, they end up making the most money (our graduating class had a starting average salary of $56,800 and I'm not making this up haha). Anyways, good luck - by the time you graduate, we'd be ranked even higher.

Holy crap. I picked the wrong school.

I should Google how much Computer Science majors make at entry level.
