Can someone please explain to me Fordham’s ranking in the WSJ 2018 rankings? I’m not one to believe much in rankings, but how is that Fordham was put in #212, right next to Ithaca College and Florida Institute of Technology, which I had never heard of before. Something seems off about the methodology here.
Did you look at their methodology?
@TomSrOfBoston Yes, and all I took away from it is that they use supposed “clear performance indicators” and The US Student Survey. But I just don’t see Fordham students so unhappy with their education that it landed at #212. Most people I have talked to that went to Fordham enjoyed it academically and socially. I only ask because I am a prospective student at Gabelli.
Look at outcomes, starting salary, come tour the campus, look at US News & other ratings including Poets and Quants. Fordham isn’t in the Ivy.
If you look at the outcomes, you will see that many students are working in IB at Goldman, MS, etc., with great starting salaries.

I’m skeptical about it. It doesn’t make sense. Forbes put GSB in its top 70 business schools list. These days its tough to generate matrices; and the surveys, if it did not followed good methodology, it is going to skew the data, especially if the population tend to be a bit conservative.
Fordham has a pretty low endowment and yield of accepted students, neither of which say much about the quality of education but can play a pretty big role in formulas that are used for college rankings. Fordham is academically rigorous and has great professors, but there isn’t necessarily a way to quantify that.
I think only University of Connecticut and Villanova University have fewer endowments than Fordham which are ahead of US News overall ranking. Both are big names in sports, however, pretty comparable or weaker in other matrices.
My S went to Gabelli, loved it, and had a great outcome. Fordham has a great alumni network especially in NYC. I wouldn’t worry about any set of rankings.
Agree!
