My D has chosen Fordham RH for Business Admin. We visited in the rain in October and took a long campus tour but did not have time to look at the surrounding area because we had a pm appt. at NYU. Although we liked Fordham we thought she would end up at NYU (rejected) or BU (accepted, but she had her heart set on New York). Can someone tell me a little more about the area immediately off campus - are there lots of students walking around, businesses that cater to students, etc.? I understand that it is a working class neighborhood but mostly safe. We live in Florida and wont' be able to visit again before May 1.

I live 10 minutes away from the RH campus and I attend Fordham-- even though I live so close, I do dorm so I am in the neighborhood frequently. (If you have any questions about the dorms feel free to ask). Your daughter made a great choice-- Fordham is an amazing school and NYC is definitely one of the best places in the world to get an education. As for the neighborhood... for someone coming from Florida, the bronx might be a shock at first but I'm sure your daughter will become quickly adjusted. I've lived around here all my life so I'm relatively used to the bronx, but it is a place where you must be careful. I have seen kids in my dorm that think they're invincible and run off by themselves at 3 am for a drink at the bar-- big mistake. They usually always come back with a negative story, and to be honest, they're relatively lucky they came back at all. Staying in groups is a must if going out late-- going out during the day is fine. Negatives aside, the bronx is great... lots of italian restaurants most of which are family owned with the best food in the world. The workers at these places will eventually remember your name and greet you everytime you come in. Fordham rd. has every store imaginable.. I'm guessing that's a plus for a girl. I'm a huge yankee fan and the stadium is fairly close so that's a big plus for me haha. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask

do you feel that the campus is somewhat small?

The Belmont section of the Bronx is right next to the Rose Hill campus. It's a nice neighborhood with lots of Italian restaurants, bakeries, pizzarias, and, um, bars.

Fordham kids live all over the neighborhood and Fordham has off campus dorms there too. It's a working class nieghborhood, so when students come home late at night and they are noisy, the neighbors complain. But mostly its a nice place to live and hang out.

On the other side of campus is the New York Botnical Gardens and the Bronx Zoo--the zoo is free to students on Wed--I love it.

Fordham
Road is very busy during the day and gets a little deserted late at night. But campus security will come and pick you up from the subway or anywhere in the neighborhood if you're worried or uncomfortable.

I don't know if we drove through a really bad part of the Bronx but I did not like what I saw. However, the campus is amazing and during the tour (yesterday--POURING rain the entire tour) I totally forgot I was in the Bronx. The security stopped every car yesterday to make sure everyone was there for Open House and it felt so safe, I don't think there'd be any problems on campus, honestly. Off campus, I don't know. That one part we drove through--I was unimpressed. But again, that was one part and the Bronx is not one street. Hope I helped some.

are the buildings nice internally as well?
