My daughter was out with a friend (not a Fordham student) who had too much to drink on an empty stomach and couldn't walk home. D had to get a cab to take them back to friend's school. In the frenzy of getting friend out of the cab (after friend barfed a bit in the cab and D had to negotiate with cab driver, giving him double what was on the meter which was all the cash she had), D walked back to Fordham and realized she left her phone in the cab.
Security helped her track it down and when the cab driver came back with the phone and wanted a ton of money for doing so, the head of security, a retired NYC Cop read the cab driver the riot act. Got her phone back without her having to pay any more.
Kept D as calm as possible. Kept telling her to go to bed and they would take care of it (she couldn't- she had to stay in the lobby until the phone was back.) They took good care of her while she was going through a stressful situation at 4 am.

From my first visit to Fordham, I felt that the security force at LC would take care of my kid if she had a problem, and they did. And I'm grateful.

Wonderful story, Lefty. I know a lot more at Rose Hill. They are very helpful. And Fordham students are told at Rose Hill if they are ever out in the Bronx or basically anywhere in New York, all they have to do is call Security and they will come and get them, regardless of the time of day, to be safe and return them to Fordham. Most cab drivers in NYC are honest, but there are the odd creepers out there.

I am glad it worked out for your daughter and her friend.

Word to the wise on drinking (whether of age or underage) : ALWAYS consume a full 12 oz glass of water BEFORE drinking alcohol. ALWAYS. It fills the stomach and naturally restricts how much you consume, and it helps absorb alcohol and it also helps prevent horrific vomiting and hangovers. And my other trick is to always eat plenty of food, preferably non greasy food, just before consuming booze or at least while consuming booze. That helps absorb the alcohol. Both of these prevent alcohol poisoning and black out type of drinking.

Of course the best prevention is to have one drink and stop or no drinks at all. And to stay away from party animals because they put social pressure on you to drink with them.

Drinking happens at every college around the country. Urban schools, bucolic country setting schools, big schools small schools, catholic schools and public schools. Even so called dry schools.
