Yes - we only got our receipt as well. I did call the bursar’s office and that is all we get at this time. Very soon our happy mailboxes will be full of mailings regarding housing and other helpful information. Please don’t forget to complete the FAFSA for any scholarships. It is a free website and you will need to complete this every year to renew scholarships. I made the mistake of completing at FAFSA.com which at the end of entering very private information (social security numbers, birthrates, and tax information) I was asked to pay a fee of $79.99. I remembered that the application was free. I had accidentally completed all on a private service. I called the next morning to have my information removed. The actual website is FAFSA.ed.gov (not .com). I did call the Fordham office to let them know to include the proper website as other acceptance letters had it clearly noted. Anyway, we are excited. My daughter is excited to decorate her dorm room. I wish I had pictures of dorm rooms so we can plan.

How long after sending in your deposit did you guys get a receipt? It has been a while since I sent mine, and I’m getting a little worried that they didn’t get it.

I seem to recall that the transaction was accepted. I also had the credit card receipt by my bank. That should be good enough. Please call the school if you are concerned.

May 1 is a post mark date in any event. Since you mailed it in already, they have it.

Your check clear the bank? That is your best receipt anyway.

You wont get stuff about Dorms and meal plans until around June, and roomies until later.

Bethesda: that FAFSA.com site is a known scam for a long time…for the unwary. And you fell into it. Sorry. But yes, FAFSA is technically a federal government service of the Dept. Of Education, since they control ALL student loans now.

It is what it is.

Room sizes vary by size and location. Fordham will send you enough information about the bedding sizes etc. And also some alternatives to the caravan…how to send stuff through a service and store it in the summer etc, particularly for foreign students and those far away who cant drive. Also roomies often negotiate who brings the mini fridge and stuff. Basically there isnt a lot of room for extra stuff. Just lamps, floor covering, and most kids put their suitcases/trunks under their beds and use the armoir. Some dorms have walk in closets, but they aren’t huge either. Some dorms have private bathrooms in the room (but that means YOU/Student have to clean it during the year!) and some have communal bathrooms (single sex obviously) on the hallway. Its dorm life. Get used to it.

Kids put up posters and extra mirrors on walls. ResLife can be nazis about room damage so you gotta be careful and make note in writing IMMEDIATELY of any issues when you move in, so you arent tagged in May.

On move in day Fordham sends around the IT people (in addition to having Rose Hill Society kids move your stuff in with upperclassmen helping…you dont lift a finger). So you get your wifi working in minutes. Basically with cell phones there is no need for a room phone. So forget about those. Plus, there were always problems with long distance abuses etc.

For another source of whats happening on campus at Rose Hill…go to TheRamOnline.com and read away. But beware…its typical student complaints and snarky commentary…student run paper (a wonderful activity for kids btw…and a fun group of editors!), but dont overreact to things they say.

The venerable Ramskeller…erstwhile drinking establishment and activity center in the basement of McGinley is being converted to a new and additional FITNESS CENTER this summer! A good thing if you ask me.

Dorms are pretty big too, so if you bring a desktop computer it will fit (I am bringing one).

I have used fafsa.com for several years. I love it. I started before the fafsa.gov site was upgraded. For me the price i paid for two daughters ate the same time was worth it. They caught errors and the aid I got was worth every penny of the stress I didn’t have.

My fafsa was done Jan 1 this year. It’s not a scam it’s a business.

When I apply for something I like to go in fully aware. I really did not know about the private offering. I wish that they had it clearly noted including their remarkable benefits before I proceeded to input information that I did not want an outside & paid business to have. I fully accept responsibility for my error but, really both websites look non-governmental. I am certain I am not the only one to have entered information thinking that they were on the Federal site. It reminds me of my 1st day on the internet… and this was before search engines. I typed in barney.com to please my young son… Soon his favorite purple character was on the screen and the “I Love You” theme song streamed out of the speakers. I wanted to please my little girl as well so I typed in Barbie.com. Instead of her beloved doll I got into the nastiest of sex web sights. Other parents must have had the same experience as later Mattel secured the web address and if anyone typed the unfortunate combination they would be directed to the toy manufacturer’s website. So my most recent blunder is .com vs .gov - so sad but not a huge deal since the .com company in this case is one which has a legitimate business enterprise. I am glad that there are sights to help people secure money to help with the overwhelming costs of college. All the best to our children as they wrap up their AP exams and last classes. Graduation is soon!

Right on the website it says not affiliated with the government. The fafsa.gov is sooo much better then it used to be.

And woot…my youngest graduates from Fordham next year. Hardest part of Fordham is the core, but now both daughter feel it was well worth it having a full education.

My daughter has decided to go to Fordham. She will be in the Ailey/Fordham BFA program. I have made the deposit. Now, does anyone know if we can search for a roommate somehow and make a request? She is an evangelical Christian and would prefer to room with a like minded girl. Any suggestions as to how to go about this? Facebook?

@mydancer: Fordham should send an e-mail to your daughter about their Facebook app, she can use that. Aside from that, you do room mate stuff during the summer.

Congrats mydancer to your D on her acceptance to such a wonderful and highly selective program! Welcome to Fordham!

In June your D will fill out a housing survey of her preferences. Fordham tries to match people with similar living habits and desires and they do a pretty good job for many. Your D can also request to be paired with someone she meets on Facebook or perhaps at the summer orientation if she plans on attending.

Thanks TheJuanSoto and Sandkmom. Another question - when is summer orientation usually held?

One thing I learned about fordham is they sometimes didn’t give enough notice for orientations, etc, as they were not used to so many students that had to book flights instead of driving in, so i highly recommend calling and verify dates for orientation, move in dates, etc…so call and gets dates. The packets they send will have all the info, but to make travel plans, go ahead and call

@mydancer: I’ve been looking around for orientation/important dates as well, but cannot find anything. I am going to call them as suggested, but if you find out, tell us!

I just found out that a really nice girl from my area accepted! I am so excited!

Two years ago my S went to the one day summer orientation on June 29. I really only remember the date bc it was my anniversary but I also recall there were about three or four different dates offered, some earlier and some later. I don’t remember when we found out about them or if it was on myfordham or in the mail. Makes sense to call if you need to make travel arrangements but I don’t think attendance was required.

Also, (at least at RH, but maybe someone from LC can confirm it is the same for that campus), the summer orientation is not a mandatory event. It was a one day thing which was nice, but not critical to attend. The main orientation takes place when students get to school in Aug. – the freshmen start a few days before the other classes for that orientation.

My D would like to know when she can expect to receive the housing form. She is in the honors program and is thinking of requesting Queens as her first choice. We went on a tour of it and love the lounge!

Also, we know that she will have the 3 honors courses on her schedule first semester. What other courses will she take? Will she get to choose and if so, what other courses would be good to take with honors courses?

The Honors Program sort of has their own agenda and courses that fulfill the core requirements. Dr. Nasuti is in charge of it and you can ping him and ask. But the first semester courses are largely selected for students based on your HS transcript and foreign language test you take online this summer and such. The dorm selection is this summer and they send out forms in June to everyone. You pick three choices. Honors kids do tend to congregate in Queens, however. My kid lived there and its a great place, and lots of fun, and has unique features and dorm programs. No dorm is perfect however. And Queens is haunted! LOL. Lots and lots of stories abound.

Is there a foreign language requirement for pre-meds in the Honors Program?
