omzac-I don’t know about pre-med, but I can tell you that yes, you need to be at ‘exit level’ of a foreign language when you are in the honors program. (Or is that for everyone?)
My daughter took three years of high school spanish with a pretty bad teacher, and only tested into intermediate spanish, so she took it all this year, and will be taking it all next year too. (she hates it.)

mompom- my daughter is at LC, but I imagine that the program is the same. My daughter took honors theology, spanish, multivarible calculus (in the honors program, you have to be one level above calculus or you have to take a science- you have that choice but it’s either/or- honors english, the first level of her major (communications), and a special once a week, one credit class, only for honors kids, first semester was a writing workshop, second semester was a public speaking workshop. (that class was a ton of work for one stinkin’ credit!)

So, 6 classes. The only classes that changed in the second semester were honors philosopy instead of theology, and honors history instead of english.

We went to orientation last summer in mid July. The Harry Potter Deathly Hallows premiere was at Lincoln Center that same day and when we were finished at Fordham, we went over there, got into the crowd and got to see the stars!

There really was no new info at the orientation. It was our 3rd visit at the school and really wasn’t necessary. Great to be there, but I’m only a couple of hours away. I certainly wouldn’t fly to NY for it. As someone said above, the real orientation takes place the first week of moving in.

Well, I did put my deposit in for Fordham last week (thanks to CC, my friends, and family)!
And I am also happy to say that I have no regrets about my decision.

I have one question:
I do intend to go the premed route when I attend Fordham. With the numerous core requirements that Fordham has, would it be more beneficial in this scenario to major in a science? I am considering the following majors at Fordham (and I know I have plenty of time to decide!):

Biology
Chemistry
History
(MAYBE a social science or theology if I like those core classes)

I am also interested in the following minors:
Bioinformatics
Music (I have played trombone since middle school)

I am plan on majoring and minoring or double majoring at Fordham. Comments? Suggestions? Should I also consider the 3-2 program for chemical engineering?

^^^You have plenty of time to decide your major. If I were you, I would start Fordham, see how you like your first semester/first year classes and take it from there. You will be exposed to a lot through the core. You will have ample opportunity to meet with your adviser and plan out a schedule that will allow you to meet the requirements of whatever major you choose and fulfill the pre-med requirements. Congratulations and I hope you have a great four years at Fordham.

Its all good. Welcome to Fordham, glad you are coming. And you will be assigned a freshmen orientation faculty member and advisor, and likely have an upperclassman assigned to give advice as well…

Dont major in music at Fordham. period. Play in the band or orchestra for FUN. (small stipend if you do.). Music history courses at Fordham are okay…and some are interesting…like Jazz History.

Some kids double major. Some major and minor. MOST wait until their grades come in at the end of Freshmen year (Fordham ranks its students) and see where they are…what core classes/departments they enjoyed. And if you do well…you may be offered an Honors Curriculum at one or more departments.

This is definitely the response I expected… Thanks happy and sovereign!
I’ll talk to my academic advisor about what core classes I should take. Then, I’ll decide on my major for premed when the time is right…

I had a feeling that the music program at Fordham was subpar. Most colleges that aren’t conservatories do not offer great music programs (there are exceptions of course). I’ll join the jazz band and all the extracurricular music programs, but aside from that, music has never been a priority (even though I’m really good!).

Here are a few questions off the top of my head:
What are the best departments at Fordham? From my research I have a feeling what the best departments are, but I would like your opinions.
When do I have to sign up for housing? What is the best Freshmen housing?

Sovereign- What’s that about a small stipend if you play in the orchestra or band for fun?
My daughter gets two credits for singing in the University Choir, but no $.
Just curious.
