General Comments:
I like Fordham and there 3-2 Engineering program but don’t know if it’s where I want to go.

sdsurfer:

The 3-2 program is very good and very very rigorous (as all Engineering programs are, no matter where you go.) So that call is up to you. Investigate it fully. When you come to accepted students weekend (I strongly recommend it), you can make further inquiry about it. If engineering is truly your calling, then fine. If its an idea and simple avocation then think twice about it. Its serious business.

On the otherhand, Fordham is famous for its core curriculum, which is designed to give you a broad based education and prepare you for life as a multidimensional thinker. It is also designed to give you a dabbling in subjects and introduce you to professors and programs…and many students come to Fordham and decide on majors they had not really considered at first. The light bulb goes on and the heavens open up so to speak. Wonderful opportunities. Don’t be afraid of the liberal arts either. Some of Fordham’s strongest departments are in the liberal arts.

Come ready to work hard. Its not an easy school.

your gpa is probably related to the strength of your curriculum and grade deflation. Your ACT score and class rank speak to that.

Fordham is a special place in a special location (especially Rose Hill).

As you get your acceptance letters investigate each school carefully. Make a strong and objective list of wants/needs on your part and see where they match up. That includes academics, athletics, internships, programs, professor’s credentials, location, weather, student body, vibe, growth opportunities for you (i.e. its not just an extension of high school), your gut feeling on campus.

(These same “rules” apply to everyone, btw.)

The Bronx offers a lot of opportunity for those interested in helping others, which are rich and rewarding experiences. Fordham is very engaged in its community. Its the Jesuit way.

Good luck to all and Merry Christmas.

I am very excited about attending. I am also going to do the 3-2 engineering program!

Comments: I was very excited to get in! I visited both campuses last month and loved them.

I am an upstate New Yorker who applied early action and still has not heard from Fordham. About a month ago I received a letter from them stating that they were in receipt of my application and not to contact them about my application’s status. Since then…nothing.

My stats are all good. I cant imagine what went wrong with this application. I did send an inquiry today, but am not sure I sent it to the right place. Is there anyone else who hasn’t heard yet and sent in a request for information. My concern is the upcoming Christmas break. If something is wrong I need to rectify the problem before it is too late.

Talk about stress!

Question: After you get accepted, are you supposed to get an e-mail with info on the my.fordham.edu thing or do you have to do that yourself?

Bjorn 1- call them- very friendly and helpful office and they will check for you right away- and if deferred no worries- many more in regular decision.

Brocha, thanks. I am glad it is a helpful office. I think I will call.

dpwl, submit your grades from this semester. If Fordham is a top choice then say so. Its not really your SAT score, though Fordham’s profile is rising rapidly and your scores would have been a slam dunk 5 years ago, they aren’t today unfortunately.

If you do well with your grades this semester that will help you. Good luck.

For those accepted, I found this and I think it’s the official Fordham '16 group:
<a href=“Facebook Public Group | Facebook”>Facebook Public Group | Facebook;

Also, to the more experienced members, are the Admitted Student events in April worth the travel? My family can only afford to pay for my ticket so I would be going alone.

Juan:

The Admitted Students weekend is very informative and helpful for those students/parents still on the fence. If you are already committed to attend Fordham, there is no need to attend, unless you want to meet people who would be your classmates (potential classmates.) Fr. McShane gives a good speech at the end and then mingles in a reception to talk with people. You see the Rose Hill campus, tour the dorms, meet some faculty and see classrooms etc. Its worthwhile, but not entirely necessary. I always recommend people visit a school before committing to attend so they can see what is going on and get the vibe and tour facilities. But for some, finances trump that.

99 percent of people will be with at least one parent. If you are alone, perhaps you can arrange to stay in one of the freshman dorms and be sponsored by a student, to save money on a hotel/food etc.

Fordham is very special and worth the look-see. But if money is an issue, don’t worry about it.

Thanks. Hotel won’t be a problem as I have family in New York. I will most likely attend Fordham, but when I went to visit during Spring Break they had no campus visits or events so I just got to walk around the campuses. I haven’t actually “visited” the school. Money is not an issue if I am the only one going.

Forgot to post this earlier :x

Decision: Accepted
School applied to: Lincoln Center for possible Chem Major (Hoping for the Pre-Med program)
Objective:

SAT I (breakdown): 1930 (600 W, 630 M, 700 R)

SAT II: too lazy.

ACT: 30

Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.7

Weighted GPA: 4.0

Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): School doesn’t rank

APs : 4 US History, 3 World History, currently in Gov, Lit&Comp, Russian

Subjective:

Extracurriculars : Stage Crew manager, assorted clubs, volunteer 150+ hours, etc.

Awards : National Honor Society, National Hispanic Scholar

Essay: I actually really liked the essay I sent in. I had several of my teachers read it with minimal corrections, so I was happy to have my original work stand. Writing isn’t my best subject SAT wise, but I’ve always loved free writing.

Other:

State (if domestic applicant): NY

School Type: Super competative public school

Ethnicity: Puerto Rican

Gender: Female

Comments: I was so excited, Fordham is my top choice so once that letter came in I was completely ecstatic. I’m disappointed with the scholarship package so far. I’m afraid if I don’t get anymore financial aid, Fordham will be out of my reach, but I figure the hardest part is over and everything is for the best :D

Decision: Accepted!
School applied to: Rose Hill

SAT I: 1880

Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.3

Weighted GPA: 3.7

Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): School doesn’t rank

APs : 4 AP Lang and Comp, currently in Human Geo and Lit

Subjective:

Extracurriculars : volunteer hours, work in inner-city and local government

Essay: All about my experiences working in a low income area with the local government and the contrast to my wealthy suburb

Other:

State (if domestic applicant): NJ

School Type: competitive public school

Ethnicity: White

Gender: Female

Guess they must have really liked my essay and extra curriculars because my stats are pretty low. This was my first choice, but it all depends on financial aid. Congrats everyone!
