Fordham vs Boston College

<p>Its pretty much come down to either of these schools.</p>

<p>I got a $20k scholarship per yr to Fordham, which is like an hr from home. Its also in NYC (the bronx) and I’ve lived in the suburbs my whole life, so it would be a change.</p>

<p>BC is ranked higher, but no money (aka almost $50k a year) and its still suburban, or so I think.</p>

<p>I dont wanna say money is a huge deal, but I refuse to believe its irreleveant (regardless of what my parents say).</p>

<p>Which is the better choice? Cheaper, tho lower ranked, Fordham in NYC or the more suburban, higher ranked, but more expensive, BC?</p>

<p>Would you say BC is defintly a better school than Fordham?</p>

<p>I would still go to BC even with the money considerations...Fordham has done nothing but decrease in repuation and quality for the last 50 years, while BC has increased. Quite possibly you should/should have considered your state university if money was an issue..It is worth the extra money for BC over Fordham</p>

I do not want to get into one of these interminable and silly internet debates, but your comment has everything to do about unfounded Internet disinformation and nothing to do with substantiated fact.</p>

<p>I've matriculated in both schools and taught in both schools. I've never met a Fordham student who didn't have the smarts to attend an Ivy league, but I have met a few BC students who barely put meaning into average. </p>

<p>As for your comment on Fordham's decreasing reputation for 50 years, I'm a little confused. It's law school just shot up to 25, it's business school in the 20s as well, and I've read somewhere that they got over 22,000 applications this year. Those aren't signs of a decreasing reputation. It sounds more like they've finally figured out that they're located in the world's capital and can/should attract more and more quality students.</p>

<p>If you get an opportunity, please read Ray Schroth's (S.J.) book on the history of FORDHAM. It's only been since the eighties really that BC has been ranked better than Fordham.In the 60s, BC was a day hop school and Holy Cross was the top ranked Jesuit school in MA. </p>

<p>Fordham is back on track and on the rise. BC is a fine school but your spurious comments are unbecoming of someone apparenlty associated with a "better" ranked school.</p>

<p>if you plan on getting a job after undergrad, you should go to bc, otherwise work hard at fordham and go to a good grad school</p>

<p>sorry for the double post, but im currently torn between Baruch Honors and BC. i'll probably go to baruch for 1-2 years and then possibly transfer into bc, but im not too sure yet and... im still waiting for notre dame.</p>

The starting salaries for a Fordham business undergrad and a NYU Stern undergrad are strictly the same. $50,000 +/year. Fordham has an excellent placement rate, even for liberal arts students.
Baruch is much easier to get into than either Fordham or BC.
Why are you serving up wrong information?
Preferring BC and/or Baruch to Fordham is not a problem but don't make things up about Fordham.</p>

<p>"$50,000+/year" there is a difference you know... between 60k and 80k last time i checked, and besides, stern is more prestigious than fordham. if you know anything about baruch honors, tuition is free, and they offered me around 8k for 4 years if i attend. Baruch is decent in business, but i'd rather go to a college with a name, and with a better name, usually comes with a better paycheck</p>

<p>Ok, i know a lot of people who go to Fordham, and none of them have "Ivy League Smarts" Its a fact that 50 years ago Fordham was a better school than BC, but its 2007 now not 1957, so everyone needs to stop living in the past and realize that Fordham is just an average school now. Fordham is basically the safety school for everyone in the top half of my high school class every year. There is no doubt that in 2007 BC is more prestigious. Think what you want though, and read through my other posts and you will find out that i dont exactly love BC, I am just stating facts. Its you that is providing the disinformation.</p>

<p>You need to read me carefully. I simply said that according to BUSINESSWEEK, a reliable source in my opinion, starting salaries are STRICTLY THE SAME between a Fordham undergrad and a NYU undergrad. </p>

<p>What else can I tell you, I didn't make up the ratings. </p>

<p>Remember, too, that there are many, many people at Fordham who would prefer Fordham to Baruch (for ranking reasons) but who wouldn't thumb their noses at Baruch students. </p>

<p>I never said BC was not a good school, nor that it wasn't ranked better. What I said is that Fordham is A BETTER SCHOOL THAN YOU GIVE IT CREDIT. </p>

<p>It makes no difference to me if you don't like Fordham and you can have whatever perception you desire about the school, but when somone asks for your opinion and you provide a spurious reply based on a pompous and false perception, that's just wrong, for whatever your reasons. </p>

<p>How do you explain the current Fordham students, who had been admitted to BC and turned it down to attend Fordham (and there are more and more of them)? If Fordham is just average, does this mean that BC is becoming more and more average ? </p>

<p>When I was in prep school, everyone in my prep school applied to Yale and most were accepted, did that make Yale a safety school for us?</p>
