Hi! I am looking into applying to Fordham for next year. I want to be in the city, and the D1 athletics, architecture, Jesuit background, and reputation is really perfect for what I’m looking for. I was wondering what the student life was like, and what the athletics were like. Is there good school spirit? I assumed so because they are D1, but I was curious if going to football/basketball games are things people do. I hope so! Thanks everyone!
(I wrote a long reply in another post, answering many of your questions, particularly on athletics.)
As for school spirit - that’s one of the things our DS likes best - that a probably a quarter or more of the students on any day are wearing Fordham gear - he feels that shows they are proud to be associated with their school - something he didn’t see at most other colleges.
Students do go to football and basketball games - it can be hard to get tickets. Like most colleges, the number of student fans tends to correspond to how the team is doing.
Student life really depends on what each individual makes it. Our son is not from the Tri-state area, and has stayed in on-campus housing. He has a great group of friends at his dorm, as well as his teammate friend-group. They meet in the caf a couple times each day, have ‘cooking nights’ in the dorm kitchen, and play catch or study on Eddie’s. On weekends some go explore NYC, go hiking, …and study. The ‘nightlife’ is centered on the area between Arthur Avenue and Fordham Road. Students can go to the Botanical Gardens right next to campus for free, and that is where some run or walk. The stores on Fordham Road are amazing - great fashion and low prices.

Thank you so much!!
