Will colleges reject you for not completing their number of required years of a foreign language class? I'm taking 2 years of Spanish and really don't like it, its not for me. So I don't really want to take it anymore. That being said, I want to go to NYU and they ask for 3-4 years. If my SAT and GPA and extracurriculars are good, will they still reject me for not doing so?

No

(Assuming that the two years you took were level 1 and level 2…)

<a href=“High/Secondary School Preparation”>High/Secondary School Preparation; doesn’t say “required”, but the implication is that not having a high enough level of foreign language puts one at a disadvantage.

Note that NYU College of Arts and Sciences has a foreign language graduation requirement of the fourth semester of college foreign language or equivalent proficiency. The higher the level of high school foreign language you complete, the more likely you will be able to complete a college foreign language requirement in fewer semesters (by being able to start in a more advanced course than the beginner one in college).
