this may turn out to be a stupid question, but that letter thing says "If you plan to continue your study of French or Spanish at U.Va., and you are not exempt and did not take the SAT II French or Spanish exam, you must take the online exam before June 23."

First, I don't PLAN to continue my study. Second, I don't know whether or not I'm exempt (haven't gotten AP scores back yet), but I did take the SAT II. Do I have to take the online exam?

I remember reading somewhere you had to get higher than a... 600+ something in order to be exempt? I think it's in the pack they sent you (the one with the COD).

thanks! yeah i JUST missed the score to be exempt with the SAT II (it was a 660...I stink at foreign language) but they have a big emphasis on "who have not taken the SAT II Foreign Language exam", so is it safe to assume that even if you didn't get the exemption you don't have to do the placement test?

I thought they handed out the exams at orientation as well. Anyway, you need something like a 680 to qualify out of a foreign language completely I think. 660 will probably just get you out of the first three semesters, and you'd need to take the fourth semester in that language. You may as well take the exam anyway to see if you can exempt yourself if you don't want to take the foreign language.

you don't have to take the online exam if you have a sat ii score, unless you want to try and do better. you can also take some exams at fall orientation as well.
