Language is truley my passion. I love learning foreign languages! Senior year I'll be taking German IV and possibly French II (if my schedule works). But, I've also self studied Italian for a year and a half with Assimil language learning programs. I recently started self studying Spanish and French with this system as well (probably 2-3 months).

So, is it enough to just put this on my application under ECs? I honestly don't feel that I have enough knowledge to take an SAT II test and do well, but I also don't know how I would prove something like this...I don't want them to feel like I'm lying or anything...

Help please!!!

I never heard any complaints when I put two self-studied languages in my ECs. If you’re concerned about it, write one of your essays about your passion for foreign languages (like I did).

Thank you! Good idea for an essay.

yeah, definitely write about it in your essays. have you looked into maybe tutoring others or doing exchange programs? and i’d take the sat 2s for sure, just to see how it goes. for the majority of colleges you don’t have to report sat 2 scores you don’t like.

If ur applying to private schools with the common app, there’s an area for languages you know and bubbles that indicate whether u know how to read, write, or speak it. But there’s only a few lines.

@thecube. I’ve looked at a few questions from the SAT Italian test and it is way beyond my level. Haha. I understand the basics and a few complex things, but not enough to score well enough on an SAT Subject Test. Same with all the other languages. Even German looked pretty difficult but that’s probably because we have a terrible German class (it combines German II, III, and IV and basically the German III and IV kids get sent to the library while the teacher stays to teach the German II students. :/

@anothergalaxy. I noticed that too, but I thought that was only for languages one knew fluently…
