Does it hurt your chances for medical school (or BA/MD) if you shadow a doctor in a foreign country (france)?

I shadowed a doctor while I was in Africa. I think it obliterated my med school chances :(

Are you serious (or are you being sarcastic)?
When you say "think," how did you come with that idea (are there statistics...)?

Also, I thought about this because after reading the threads on CC, it seems to me that doctors in the US have a certain contempt for any foreign doctors.

^^^Please reference the threads that gave you this idea.

Sorry, I didn't find the thread, but I was sure that Sakky said in it that a DO in the US is much much more valued than an MD in the carabbean.

I finally found the thread: it is in PREMED, in "What if I don't get into any med school... Then what"

on page 2:"Foreign medical school - education is inferior to US med schools and in some cases it is extremely poor."
"They arent looked at as highly as U.S. Med Schools, that is true."
"yea we all know that people who went to foreign med schools are trash and don't deserve to live or practice medicine...I mean I would feel safter getting diagnosed by a hobo than a student from a foreign med school."

I assume that if the general trend in the US population is to disrespect foreign education, so is the trend to disrespect foreign MDs. This is pure assumption, and I would like any comments from you guys if possible because I have no empirical evidence for this.
Thanks!

Also, i don't know if this opinion is shared by US MD (and the adcoms). What is your view on foreign shadowing?

Hey! come on... Can anyone give their experience on this??

I didn't like your use of "contempt." But, yes, you will not be able to practice in the US with a foreign MD unless you pass additional tests (the USMLE) and, yes, most foreign med schools are inferior to American med schools.

Sorry about the use of "contempt" (I am still not very fluent in english so I use whatever words come to my mind)

However, I would like also (if possible) any inputs about foreign shadowing and how they are viewed by med adcoms.

PS: I am talking about French doctors specifically.

Anyone knows about foreign Shadowing and LORs?...Does it give an advantage/disadvantage, is it as highly valued as shadowing in the US?
