Forensics or Debate?

Which one is more interesting... I've had some background on debate... is forensics much different?

Is being apart of either extra-curricular activity look good on your resume? If so, which one?

Thanks!

No, because doing an extra-curricular event can only harm you.

They are combined at my school.

Debate: Persuasive speaking, controversial topics, cross examination

Forensics: “Speech events”/“Interpretive Events”/“Dramatic Events” are all terms used to describe this. Lots of acting/reading.

Either would look good if you were dedicated and pursued leadership. I’ve been in Debate (which includes Forensics) in 4 years and I’m the President, teaching the new novice. It’s a very fun activity.

Thanks  They both look very interesting to me. but i think i’ll do Forensics

Do you have to choose one? Because the best way to decide would be to try both. Unless you’re certain.

Our class is just named “Debate.” “Forensics” draws the CSI fans…

Debate for sure.

Debate because it is much more versatile for college applications. It can enhance any major you plan to pursue in college from Business to Law to Mathematics to English to Science to Social Studies, whereas Forensics will probably be more Science-based.

Forensics = interpretive/acting side of Debate. Not CSI stuff, haha.

^ Oh lulz. The one at my school is science-based and they actually examine chemicals, fingerprints, poisons, and do fieldwork at the local forensic lab.

Haha, totally different application of the word. But that’s the main reason why my “Debate” class is not named “Forensics”.

Now that you mention it, I might try both. Thank you for the suggestions.

Go for it! Both are fun.

I’d recommend both, because there are many categories in forensics that are similar to debate. If you aren’t a person who likes to be all dramatic, etc, there is still probably a forensics event for you. There’s Extemp Speaking, which is a lot like debate (only you say only what you want to say and no one else’s opinion really matters).
