Forgot to give 1099-SSA to school during verification

I was scoping through my tax stuff to fill out this years FAFSA and I noticed my SSDI form that I’d received in 2015 (1099 SSA) It wasn’t for much at all, and was nowhere near the taxable threshold, and I had spoken with FAFSA and financial aid before and they told me not to include it on the FAFSA form. However, I stupidly didn’t think about it being a 1099 last year when I was selected for verification. I did submit my income-- a meager W2-- and my parents did their part, and all of our verifications were past.

But… the form they had me file asked for 1099s as well, and this was a 1099. Now I’m concerned, because I past verification somehow, but wouldn’t they need my 1099-SSA? Maybe they don’t because it’s not counted in the EFC? I would hope they wouldn’t consider me forgetting it fraud, since it wouldn’t change how much aid I got regardless, but I’m worried about what they’ll say? Does anyone who has/currently works in financial aid know how this kind of thing would be handled? Will my financial aid be delayed for this semester?

An additional thought-- is it possible that they could access this form themselves, since it is linked to my social security number? I don’t know how verification works. Also, if I had never found this form and realized I needed it, would they have come after me for it?

Anyway, thanks! Obviously, I can’t contact them tomorrow, but I’ll speak with them as soon as I can. I just want to make sure that it’s clear that I’m just dumb and forgot it. I’m really worried about them penalizing me for it. I come from a low education, low income family and I’ve had to navigate a lot of this alone and I’m upset at myself for screwing things up :frowning:

They cannot access any forms with your SSN on them. You don’t want them to (your bank accounts, your 401k accounts, your tax forms, etc).

Send them a copy and explain it wasn’t included as income and you omitted it.

Oh… I mean I know they have it, but I guess there would be laws against that. Although they already have my tax forms :stuck_out_tongue: Except this one, of course.

Do you think I’ll be in trouble for it?
