Okay. I'm a bit confused about the whole filling out Financial Aid. I know there is FAFSA we fill out that comes out on January 1st of every year. So I do plan to fill out FAFSA. Now, when I apply to my schools, the deadlines are on the same date. Do I send in another type of form with my application stating that I want financial aid and my parents make X amount of money and there is X amount of money in assets, etc etc.? If so, what is it, where can I get more information about it?

Depends on the school. Nearly all schools require FAFSA. Some (about 300 out of several thousand schools in the nation) will also require a form called CSSprofile that asks for more information. Some other may also have their own forms.

The information about what a particular school requires should be readily available on the school’s website. You need to check with each school you are applying to, to see what they require and what their deadline is.

Only one of my D’s schools asked for financial information on the app, and that was just income; they still used FAFSA. But swimcatsmom is correct, you need to check each school for what is required and the deadlines.

Our deadlines were anywhere from Jan. 31 to Mar. 15, just to give you an idea.
