Is this actually true? So, as an incoming freshman, excluding the ID course, would I still be able to cram in math, science, history, and an foreign language course (I'm assuming ID1 is a English course). Thanks.

ID1 does not necessarily "count" as an English course, but it is a reading/writing based course.

I believe that first semester you may only be able to take 4 courses (ID1 plus three others) and then you can add a physical education class or other afterwards but I'm not entirely sure. Hopefully someone else will know better than me!

Later on you'll be able to take 5 classes (maybe more?) as long as your gpa is at a certain level, I believe.

However, I really don't recommend you try to "cram in" an extra class. Pomona only lets first semester students take 4 classes for a pretty good reason- first, you need to have time to meet people and enjoy! Second, well... classes are tough.

Ah, I see. I guess I'm still stuck in the four core classes per semester mindset :p.

Only the first semester. Believe me, that isn't going to pose a problem. After first semester, if you do well, you can take 5 classes second semester of freshman year. After that you can take 5 whenever you want.
