Four years later. For those of you who have a child NOT going to an IVY, a STATE FLAGSHIP, etc

No.1 daughter went to a state directional as a B HS student. She had a rough start finding a teaching position but after two years of subbing and one at a charter school that failed to survive its first year, is now in her second year of teaching in Alaska. Loves the kids and community, and was just asked to serve on the state math curriculum committee.

No. 2 daughter was #3 in her high school class and chose to attend a middle-of-the road LAC because it was offering very generous financial aid. She loved knowing everyone on campus and being able to be very involved in campus events. Helped found a Christian community dorm, did a lot of service projects, really through herself into the college life. Graduated #3 (tied with her best friend) in the graduate program and had a job offer before graduation, with a family practice clinic (she’s a PA). The practice is growing because the women in town are thrilled to have a female practitioner (she’s the only one in the area). Today she posted a photo of her bare feet stretched out on the dock on the private lake along which she now lives - life is good, it doesn’t matter that she did not attend a top tier school.

Beautiful post and I loved this line - thanks so much for sharing.

Sunnyfloridia, thank you for posting your story

We had to tell our oldest that we couldn’t afford the $60k a year school she wanted to attend, even with the scholarship they gave her it was unaffordable for us, she will be attending a FL state school
