Fraternities?

what are they like? what are the purposes fraternities??

Will i miss out on college if i dont join them?

It varies...but their general image is the host of lots of parties.

The purposes vary, there are service frats, there are social frats, there are frats for certain fields or cultures. They host parties

No. You wont miss out on anything (and you can still go to their parties)

It depends. If you find the enivronment of one right then join but don't let your friends force you. It is just to be more social and getting to know people and becoming close with people that are your friends. Don't join based on popularity or the best parties. Join where you feel comfortable. There are also many different kinds. The stupid thing about frats is that guys don't really know much about them. The girls get to pick and choose but guys just go with their friends or hear of one or whatever. So a lot of frats end up with guys from the same town or a bunch of guys from the same dorm. So that is pretty much the part I don't like and the fact that some are full of *******s. Oh well you get that where ever you go.

Right now it feels like all of my friends are joining and I kind of want to but I probably wouldn't join where they are just because I kind of want to join to meet people. I had originally planned to but I actually wanted to wait and adjust to campus, do it second semester. Yeah not enough time this semester. There's always next semester . . . haha.

at big schools sometimes it helps to join so you dont get "lost" in the social scene

at small schools its good to join because they can completely dominate the social scene

at small schools its good to join because they can completely dominate the social scene

Indeed, mines is dominated by sport teams, frats, and other various organizations and without them your royally ****ed in the social scene. It's either join a group or be alone....

Yeah I agree with the big school thing. I go to U of I and just to make a school smaller it can help. Only if you have the time though. Don't let it affect your grades.
