I read somewhere that the frats at UF dominate UF's social life and that to go to really crazy parties you should be in a frat. Is this true, cuz I don't really know if I wanna join a frat, but I do wanna go to crazy parties. Where else can I find crazy parties at UF... house parties??

btw im an incoming freshmen, so I'm not over 21 yet.

Fraternities and off-campus houses are the places to find “crazy” parties. You should check the nightlife, if you’re into it. Such as nightclubs

Most of the nightclubs are 18+ to enter, 21+ to drink. The bouncers/bartenders will differentiate the “of age” and “under age” by different color wristbands. Since I’m under drinking age, I intensely binge drink within reason before I head out, find someone with a fake to tag along, or find someone at the bar area to buy a drink for you.

JOIN! Well, join if partying isn’t your only concern. Joining a greek organization in college helps make UF way smaller and less intimidating. I didn’t join a greek organization until my sophomore year and my experience completely changed for the better. However, if you join a frat just for the partying, you will fail because the parties are so easy to find. But if you want it for the networking, friends, opportunities on campus, and some partying then go for it! Good luck.

Well it all depends on body weight. It takes a couple bad experiences to know your own limit. And oh, I had plenty. Well let’s say I have 30 minutes to leave and “prepare” myself, and I’m way too sober. I usually drink 2 party cups of mix shots of liquor (2 parts liquor, 1 part whatever). For me, that’s my drink for the whole night. Any more I would have blacked out, puke, or do stupid irresponsible actions. That’s all in 30 minutes. Then I would hop on to RTS bus to downtown and live the night away. Of course, I’m a fairly small to medium sized male, so 2 cups get me going. It’s all different for everyone and how they handle their high-proof liquor.

or you could just save money and time, smoke a bunch of pot, do some studying and hit up the dining hall. that way you get ahead and you dont look like an idiot.

haha yeah it does, but not as dumb as you look when you wake up in the drunk tank. anyway im just lookin out for the kids on here. some poor 18 year old freshie is gonna read iInsomnia’s post and think thats a good idea. two party cups of mixed drinks is OD for some people.

I don’t know anyone who’s been arrested for being drunk. I do know many people who have been arrested for possession of marijuana. You also don’t lose your financial aid for an alcohol related conviction (you do for drugs).

Oh, and lots of people who have been arrested for using a fake ID, but that’s a whole different matter… The police actually check the really popular clubs/bars for kids with fake IDs, it’s craziness.

If you’re an inexperienced drinker, start slow, only have a few drinks that night, and see how you feel. The next time have like 1 more drink, see how that makes you feel. Eventually you’ll realize what makes you have more fun and is safe, and what leaves you sleeping next to your toilet while puking your guts out. If you go to a party, avoid mixed drinks, because sometimes they’re deceptively strong, unless you mix them yourself. Also with liquor make sure you wait between drinks, because it can take a while to hit you.

lol I’ve been living in Europe where they don’t give a **** about drinking age so I’m pretty experienced. But it’s going to be quite a change to have the police being so strict.

Lol, maybe I should put a caution on my post. I’m just describing my situation, it’s not for everybody. Just like the previous posters said, start slowly.
