I need advice!!!
So i visited Penn this summer and I LOVED it. I want to major in Biomedical Engineering. I have been planning to apply to Penn ED, but now I am having doubts. I also like Northeastern Univeristy for it's co-op program and also because I would get into the honors program and have really nice housing and get at least a half-tuition scholarship, possibly full. BUT Northeastern only has CHEMICAL Engineering, which stinks. Northeastern is only an hour or so from home, Penn is 5 hours. I love Penn's prestige, but is it overrated? Should I take a scholarship at NEU instead, or will Penn really be worth it? Another concern I have about Penn is the people & the social scene. I don't want to be surrounded by a competitive learning environment... I'm kind of laid back. And I want to have FUN in college. Are the professors really amazing at Penn, as people always say? And will Northeastern's co-op program benefit me less or more than Penn's prestige when it comes to getting a job after graduation?

basically I’m trying to decide which school I would rather go to, because if Penn is the one, I want to apply ED. Northeastern is a safety so I don’t really need to apply early there.

If financial aid is a big issue, ED at Penn is not advisable. NEU is a safety, but you cannot even consider their financial package if you are accepted to Penn ED. Though, the glaring question is why would you go to a school that does not offer the major you want to study in? Penn has one of the top Bioengineering program in the country and as you know, NEU does not even have such a program.

ttparent’s response is spot on. ED is for people who are SURE of where they want to be next year. It sounds like that is not your situation at this point.

i think i need to apply Penn ED. i dont know why I’m having doubts. i remember how much i loved it when i visited. and if i don’t get in, i’ll always have neu as a backup. wish me luck!
