Title: Notre Dame Leadership Seminars
For: There are three tracks: Global Issues, ISI, CRSD (see the website for more info)
If you can get in (they accept 120 total, 40 per group), everything is paid for. This includes all meals, airfare, room/board, etc.
Where: ND campus

I went last summer; would definitely encourage people to check it out. It was completely free. We also got a lot of free merchandise including blankets, t-shirts (“The Shirt” if any of you are ND people), lanyards, etc (We joked they were trying to make us go there because we wouldn’t know what else we would do with all the stuff they gave us if we didn’t). We listened to lectures. I was in global issues and some were about: nuclear weapons proliferation, drones, AIDS, development. We also did some fun ones: we had a law professor talk about constitutional law and a physics professor explain the whole higgs boson thing. I actually know what that is now!

The program lasts a week; one day we went to Chicago. We saw a play, went to the bean, had alumni panel, had U Chicago lecture, visited “The Plant”. We also went rollerblading one night; we had a bonfire and a dance type thing on the last night. It was a blast. We had what were basically group presentations where we argued different sides of an issue as if we were a real person involved in the debate. Great program; would totally recommend it.

Are all those programs mentioned available to US citizen only, how about PR or other international students?

Girls State and Girls Nation
For rising senior girls interested in hands-on simulations of local and state government. It’s a week-long camp held in each state (except Hawaii) and focuses on government and Americanism.
Generally free, as usually you’re sponsored by your local American Legion Auxiliary. You just have to pay for transportation and souvenirs.
Generally held at a college in your state.

[TTU Clark Scholars Program](http://www.clarkscholars.ttu.edu/)

Title: Clark Scholars Program
For: Rising seniors/college freshmen, you get to do research
Where: Texas Tech University (Lubbock, Texas)
How long: 7 weeks

I went to this program this past summer and it was awesome. There’s research in different areas, varying from pure math to classical languages (humanities research? egads). Only downer is that only 12 out of 300+ people are selected.

AAJA (Asian American Journalism Association) JCamp
Multicultural journalism program
Rising HS Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors of all ethnicities
All costs are completely covered, including travel, lodging, and meals
The location changes every year, although always at a university.
[Asian American Journalists Association – AAJA JCamp: A Nationally Recognized Program for High School Students](http://www.aaja.org/j-camp-a-nationally-recognized-program-for-high-school-students/)

I highly recommend that students interested in journalism and communications apply for JCamp. You network with talented peers from across the nation, as well as the big-names in the business (from CBS, MSNBC, AP, etc.)

Are all those programs mentioned available to US citizen only, how about PR or other international students?

I think you’ll need to check each program’s web site.

mtd203, do you know how competitive is Notre Dame Leadership Seminars program? Is the program mainly for URM?

What is the cutoff points for psat for TAsp

Bump, this is a good resource.

Chapman university has a high school workshop - experimental economics. (ESI Vernon L smith high school workshop)
It’s five days residential, all free, with the chance to earn some pocket money. A limited reimbursement if you travel from far away. Best of all, it’s in Orange County California.
Not the most prestigious or even well known program on this list, but I went because I wanted a fun vacation on top of learning.

ASE (Apprenticeship in Science and Engineering) through Saturday Academy in Oregon
[ASE Internships - Saturday Academy](ASE Internships | Saturday Academy STEM Program | Saturday Academy)
8wks and students get paid $1000

happyORmom, I did a quick look at the website but can’t find any housing information. I am assuming they don’t provide housing. Do you know if that is correct?

They do not provide housing. It is an excellent program, the mentors who work at OSU, PSU and OHSU are really into helping the highschoolers.

Bumping this because it really helped me last year. I went to the Notre Dame Leadership Seminars and loved it. I highly recommend it; transportation, room and board, tuition, etc. is all free but there is a non-refundable $50 application fee and a non-refundable $150 confirmation fee if you choose to go. It’s definitely worth it though, if you look on page 3 you’ll see all the great things involved in the program, including a trip to Chicago. Message me if you have any questions, I’d be more than happy to answer.

Application deadline is January 27th

A really awesome program is MITES at MIT. It’s for minorities interested in science and engineering. Its 6 weeks long and free. You only need to pay for transportation there. It’s a very selective program accepting less than five percent of applicants. What’s really cool about the program is that they look at who you are as a person and what you’ve gone through sometimes more than your grades. Grades are definitely a huge factor, but if your grades aren’t perfect, it’s not the end of the world. On the app they ask for grades, SAT/ACT scores, classes, class ranking, extra curriculars, your ethnic/racial background, info about your parents, and more. You also have to have 3 recommendation letters (one from a current math teacher, one from a current science teacher, and one from your guidance counselor) and 5-6 essays that are 300 words or less. The application deadline is February 1st!

MITES at MIT and Notre Dame Leadership Seminars, are they only for US PR or citizens?
Any summer programs that are free or low cost for International students like Canadian?

I have the same questions as asmallstep, are these only for us citizens?

Guys. Google is your friend. MITES says right on the front page: [index

and using google once again, Notre Dame:

Leadership Seminars // Office of Pre-College Programs // University of Notre Dame](<a href=“MITES – MIT Introduction to Technology, Engineering and Science”>MITES – MIT Introduction to Technology, Engineering and Science)

So MITES no, Notre Dame yes.

Bump. Can we add some unmentioned programs to the list?
