so the one time I've been to dartmouth was last spring break. While most college kids are in warm climates and enjoying the sun during spring break, what was Hanover like? oh, you know a blizzard, no big deal. this is the one thing that scares me about dartmouth. In all honesty, how bad are the winters? now, I'm from tennessee where we don't really have much of a winter, but I really want to experience something totally different. Would this be too big of a change for me? Oh, and I would probably be either running on my own or hopefully with the xc team, which means I would actually have to be outside for more that 2 minutes at a time!

I have the same concerns as swimmer1, actually, so I'd love to hear from the alumni/current students also. Although I don't plan on playing any varsity sports, I'd like to do some intramurals like ultimate frisbee and softball/baseball.

I'm from Nashville =p. Dartmouth is fine for me heheh.

I'll be a freshman swimmer at Dartmouth, swimmer1. I am also from TN. Send me a private message. I would have, but it wouldn't let me...

We went to dinner at Molly's in Hanover last night. I had on a jacket because I felt a little chilly, D had on short sleeves. Many of the students were walking around in shorts and flip-flops. Regarding the cold, yes it does get cold in Hanover, but you adapt. I thought we had cold winters in NY, then D came home and told me that I was a wuss because it was not cold here.

She told me that she takes it in stages as she does not want to pile everything on at once because she knows it will get colder. First they start out in long sleeves, then sweat shirts, fleeces and work their way up to coats. My daughter was one who never liked wearing a hat but faithfully wears one now.

A word to the wise- layers are a good thing. Zimmerman (the north face store) is now open. They have a wide assortment of fleeces jackets etc. You will get to the point where 30 degrees is a nice day.

CT & Ivy, I guess you will be leaving on your DOC trips soon.
To you and the rest the class of 09, thanks to all of you for allowing me to share the experience with you. Some of us have been together a long time now -from questions as prospective students, ED, RD, dimensions and now you're off to Hanover.

D asked me what am I going to do now that my "other children" are leaving for college. I send you off with a big wave, cyber hugs and kisses. I am not going to worry as I beleeve that that you are all going to have an amazing time. This is just the beginning and you are in for the ride of your life. Don't get caught up in too much debauchery over orientation :). Come back every once in a while to share your experience with the prospective class of 2010.

Thank You Sybbie! You Are Great! Don't Worry, We'll Be Back To Visit You!
