Frequently tired

needadvice, exercise should be part of your routine if you don't want to feel tired. sounds counterintuitive, but you DO feel tired if you don't get enough exercise.

quit a EC and go enjoy college, you only attend once.

set a schedule and follow it. 6-8 hrs of sleep followed by a good breakfast and decent meals throughout the day. Your body is telling you it needs "something"...cut back on the EC's...and enjoy your life - now.

You should set a schedule and always go to sleep around the same time. Figure out how much time you need to spend on work and EC's, then try to plan your day in advance. If you can't get everything done and go to sleep at a reasonable time, then you need to drop things out until you have a reasonable schedule.

Or don't go on CC and get an extra one or two hours of sleep

hmm, I don't go on CC that much...which is kind of why I am responding a week late. I think the source of the problem is school...boo.

haha UNChopeful....sleep is good.

You're the first person I've seen say law school focuses on EC's. Everyone else has said it's all about the GPA and LSAT. O_o..

I'm going to second Deedee's advice. Eating healthy can provide you with the energy you need. Eat a diet consisting of complex carbohydrates that have a low Glycemic Index (GI). As a general thumb rule, the lower the GI of a carbohydrate food source, the lower the glycemic response: this means that the energy from that food you eat will be absorbed slower and over a longer duration of time (probably 3-4 hours). This way, you won't crash like you do when you eat simple, sugary carbs like sweets, sodas, fruits on empty stomach.

You can find the GI score of most common carbohydrate food sources on the web. Oh, and breakfast is the most important meal of the day so eat up.

I agree with the healthy diet advice. That's made a difference in a lot of my friends' lives.

Stay away from excessive coffee and the caffeine pills. I started doing that for kicks and when it started working I did it to stay up all the time. Eventually I was taking 10 a day and was still sleepy, but if I didn't take the 10 I got sick. I guess that's how tolerance works.

Caffeine withdrawl is terrible; migraines, headaches, nausea.

I'm not even in college yet.

I should add that you also need to eat proteins and good fats (there is a difference between good fats and bad fats), so don't misinterpret my post above and eat carbs solely. LOL

Melli...not entirely true. Law schools need to differentiate between people with good GPAs and LSAT scores. I mean, the students that go to top law schools rarely had no ECs whatsoever, out of the ones I've met/heard about.

Thanks for the nutrition advice. I drink a mocha a day, partly because I need it to be awake in the mornings, and partly because I enjoy the taste. I know quite a few people who get headaches from coffee though, so yeah...

Oh, and I sometimes skip breakfast because I don't get up early enough....but yes, I love carbs. :) I dislike red meat though, so maybe I do not get enough protein.

How many hours do you sleep a day? Simply put, if you sleep less than 7 or 8 hours, you will feel tired. Unless you give sleep more priority, then you aren't going to feel less tired no matter what you do.

not really, everybody is different. i say get 6-8 hours of sleep each night, depending on your body. and if you're not a morning person, there's nothign you can do about it. I'm not a morning person either, if ihave to wake up before 10 i'm going to feel liek crap even if i had 10 hours a sleep.

Generally "not a morning person" syndrome develops because the person chooses to sleep way past midnight, and once you get into the habit of sleeping past midnight yet you have to wake up at 6am or 8am because you have to, obviously you will be tired.

funny how you try to argue that there is nothing you can do about waking up if you are not a morning person with your own situation, yet at the beginning of your post you say everyone is different. so everyone is different, and your situation doesn't help your argument afterall in terms of trying to argue for your point.

get in your bed and sleep before midnight for 2 weeks. come back and share results.
