do you think that following the meal plan at your school is sufficient to get the Freshman 15? If so what are my alternatives?

A meal plan gives you access to the dining hall with lots of different food. What and how much you choose to end is up to you.

But I think the Freshman 15 are more typically due to late-night study snacks and a lack of exercise than dining hall food.

I don’t think I’ll be exercising much during my first semester as I adjust myself, do you think that I can adjust eat healthier to compensate for the lack of exercise?

It’s a choice. If you choose to, you can.

I think my freshman 15 will be closer to a freshman 30. In the last 5 months (since football ended) I’ve gained about 15 pounds due to a lazy winter (I used to play basketball during the winter). I might gain 30 during my freshman year if I’m not careful…haha.

I hope things get better man, hopefully you can try and lose those extra pounds during summer and fall

The meal plan I had when I dormed was 2 meals a day, all you can eat style. It was extremely easy to get the freshman 15 because it was all you can eat and an obscene amount of unhealthy options. There are healthy choices though. Its about self control.

Most of the people I know gained the freshman 15 from a combo of drinking and bad food options.

suggestion: don’t eat. it isn’t unhealthy simply to eat less, calories are calories. if you are putting on weight stop eating

A friend of mine gained the Freshman 40. I have no idea how. My school’s dining hall has LOTS of really healthy stuff but still does have some unhealthy stuff. Overall it’s great.

freshman 15 comes pretty much entirely from drinking too much beer…switch to liquor if you’re concerned haha

low carb is a good way to go. Avoid the pizza and the pasta and the soda, which are the fast road to weight gain. Go for the salads, the meats, and the vegetables. Diet soda, while unhealthy, is good in that it fills you more than water, but doesn’t quench thirst as well. I lost 10 lbs on this diet when I got to school last year

I signed up for the 19 meal week plan, if that helps any.

I think main contributors to the freshman 15 are:
- soft serve ice cream/dessert every day
- unlimited, unhealthy foods such as fries, pizza, etc.
- poor choices: choosing unhealthy foods and avoiding vegetables
- beer
- late night snacking

Sorry for the double post (now triple), my computer froze up. >.<

I was thinking a lot of freshmen 15 was due to liquor also, such as beer.

well if a lot of it is due to drinking then I think I’m pretty safe because I don’t drink :D

Horrible suggestion. It isn’t unhealthy to eat less, but to not eat, definitely is.

lemme get that Freshman 50! I’m epic-ly underweight, and can’t wait until college.

WHOA! i have like…7. and that’s still too many.

Most dining halls have salad bars. It is also very likely that you can work out for free (or…as part of your tuition), so don’t completely write off the rec center. Stay away from late night meals and get enough sleep.
