I'm a parent and last night was told by another parent that Long Beach was not going to accept any freshmen in 2012. I believe this is 99.99999% NOT true, but just wanted to ask if any of you guys had heard anything like this.

I doubt this is true. Everywhere is aware of California budget cuts, but I doubt it would ever reach that point. If they were to stop accepting freshmen, how could the university continue without new students? They couldn’t just take in transfer students. I don’t know where that rumor was started, but rest assured, I doubt there is any truth to it.

Nothing has been officially decided and I have not read anything about them not accepting any new admissions in 2012.

The budget crisis has grown more dire this year as Gov. Brown has already announced the amount of additional cuts and had assumed that taxes would be extended to keep funding coming into the CSU system. The CA legislature did not agree to put it up to a citizen’s vote, so it is likely that a higher amount of cutting will have to be done.
