Freshman Connection, Housing and Official letter

So I have been admitted to spring 2017, and while its not what I was hoping for It’ll do. I have a few questions related to that acceptance and freshman connection, the first being if I’m undecided (still have to hear back from 3 schools, but 90% chance I’m a Terp) should I still apply for FC now? Is it binding? Also housing, apply for that now? Is there a special housing situation I have to set up through FC? I have heard good things about the advisiors for FC but dont want to bring up the possibility of me not attending. One of the most important things I should mention is that if I do not get FC I will most likely not attend as me doing a semester either in Community College or even jsut doing nothing is not enticing to me and my family would not approve either. Last question is about acceptance letters, mainly I have not gotten the “big envelope” in the mail yet and was wondering do I even get one as a spring admit?

i have posted about Freshman Connection on other feeds but i will stress again - according to my S, Freshman Connection is the best thing ever. It helps transition to college, you get to sleep late, you have all the benefits of being a Freshman (housing, dining, going to games) and you can graduate on time with the rest of your classmates. I would put the deposit down and put in for housing as soon as possible (although i would check the refundable clauses). I would also make an appointment ASAP with the super helpful FC advisors (Alyssa or Anne). They set you up with your classes and give you all kinds of information on the FC program. And i truly don’t think you should hesitate to tell them you are not 100% about FC. As i recall, you do get the red acceptance folder. And FC is a little bit less expensive. And absolutely no cares (or even knows) that you are FC unless you want them to. If you want to be a Terp, FC is a no-brainer.

My DD signed up for Freshman Connection this morning along with her classes.I can’t believe it was that easy. Her largest classes are capped at 30 people. There was no stress involved like with my other kids their freshman year who signed up along with 5K plus and were lucky to get what they wanted and had to wait to the summer to do it. All we have to do now is wait for the math placement test so she can stay in the stat class she picked. Another great thing is she has no Friday classes.

@NusaDua - Welcome to TERP Nation. Freshman Connection is a great option/

I got offered Freshman Connection as well, and quite honestly, I understand the premise of the program very little. What information is offered on the website is kind of unclear… I really like UMD, but I do have other offers/options. How exactly does one contact the FC advisors? I saw no email listed on the website… Sorry for my general clueless-ness!

Freshman Connection - It is the Office of Extended Studies. Call 301.405.7762 or e-mail fc@umd.edu. If the same helpful people are there, the advisors are Alyssa and Anne. And like @NusaDua said, you get a head start on all the other students signing up for your classes.

If you just call the administration building 301.405.7762, they should transfer you over to speak with someone in the FC program. However, CONGRATULATIONS and I hope you choose to be part of Terp family!

Definitely call. My dd called and had a great conversation with Alyssa. She talked over everything. Helped her pick all of her classes. She also had a lot of other options and scholarships but UMD is one of the best schools for criminology. My DD actually likes the idea of starting class at 3pm and having such small classes. I think the largest class I saw was capped at 45 and it was a psych class. My other daughter’s psych class at Purdue had over 400 students. Even if she is offered fall admission she said she would stay with freshman connection.

thanks for all the help/advice!

My daughter said everyone on her floorshe has met so far is Freshman Connection. The school did such a great job with this now the FC students won’t bother the regular schedule students with being on a different schedule.

The one thing I worried about FC was picking classes for Spring since FC has the lowest priority. I am happy to say my daughter didn’t have any problems and got everything she wanted and isn’t stuck in early morning classes.
