Yeah I'm from Miami so I've never really seen a real winter. I'll be going to Cornell in august and I need help figuring out where to buy my winter clothes. I was wondering what is most common around the campus. Leather jackets? Ski jackets? Parkas? Thermal underwear? Any help in what to wear to keep warm would be appreciated. And also maybe a few stores that you shop at so I can get an idea of prices.

polar bear skin...jk...i would actually like to know this as I am coming from southern ohio

Are you a girl or a guy? Generally, sweaters, sweatpants, hoodies, layering t-shirts, winter coat etc

I need guy clothes.

Bring plenty of stuff you can layer (sweatshirts, ect...).

Also, invest in a nice winter coat...I find coats with a fleece linings are really warm. I'm from upstate ny, and the coat I had wasn't warm enough (I used it for skiing and stuff, but I wasn't outside on a regular basis). I think my jacket's made by columbia..they have all sorts of warm jackets.

North face is popular, and I'd guess they're probably warm...I'm blanking out on other jacket brands.

As far as where to buy...I'm guessing miami doesn't have many ski shops? lol. I really don't know, other than ordering online.

Layers. .

from the bottom up:

Feet:
Sneakers are fine year round, but on days when it snows or there is snow on the ground boots like Tims are nice to have. I wore regular athletic socks the whole year, and thicker boot socks, merely to prevent abrasion, with my boots.

Legs:
shorts in the fall, once it gets cold, just regular pants like khakis, cargos, jeans, sweats, etc. no need for long underwear IMO.

Torso:
i wore short sleeve T shirts or polos pretty much year round, but i'd put a long sleeve T under on really cold days. To keep warm in general, I wore hoodies and was fine. a light jacket, like a leather or courduroy was a dressier alternative to a hoodie unless it was winter, where it got really cold. When it got really cold an insulated ski jacket did the trick. In the spring and fall, if it rained, a light shell (waterproof like a ski jacket, but no insulation) was nice.

Extras: hat, like a baseball hat or beanie, and gloves, just knit, light gloves are good to have.

Everything except the ski jackets is just regular brands you know. jackets come from columbia, north face, helly/hansen, any ski/snowboard company in general, or even the brands you're used to like abercrombie or w/e. ski jackets will be expensive, 100-300 bucks, and yeah, like someone said, ski shops, just go buy one there. last years models are always price reduced.
