Hi,
I just finished my freshman year of high school, and my school says that they do not use freshman year grades to calculate overall GPA. I was wondering if most good colleges would recalculate my cumulative GPA to include my freshman year grades, once I finish high school.
Colleges and universities will look at your actual grades, and will also look at what classes you have taken. They will see your grades in every high school class that you have taken up to the time that you apply. The way that they weigh different years, and the importance that they place on class rigor, will vary from one school to the next. Most universities in the US will look at your freshman year grades, but grades for the next three years will be more important (I am ignoring the issue that you will probably apply to universities before your senior grades are available).
Each college has its own way of calculating your GPA. For example, the U of California system do not use your freshman grades in their GPA calculations. So it all depends on the college to which you apply. Your school will likely use their own GPA to determine awards and other such things.
So basically, assume that, if a college considers freshman grades, they will consider yours.
