Hi- I was accepted to case EA. Anyone have any suggestions for housing options? I would prefer some sort of suite style living if they have that for freshman (a bunch of rooms all connected to one common room) so it's easier to meet people.
Thanks!

North side dorms are suite style. That is where freshman are required to live. Check link below for floor plans, etc.

Residential Facilities - Case Housing, Residence Life & Greek Life

You have to click on a building to see inside. Clark nor the Village at 115 are upperclass housing.

Case does not have suite-style living for freshman. Actually I think it's a good thing that Case does not because I am currently living in a suite, and--while I love my suitemates, am happy with my situation and have enough friends--I haven't made any new friends this year from living in the dorm with people.

However, I absolutely loved my freshman dorm experience. There are two hall styles for freshmen: hall and quad.

Hall is the typical college hall, all the rooms are in a row, either facing each other or the walls that surround the bathroom (housing.case.edu has floor plans and photos).

The quad-style dorms have halls split into four single-sex quads, eight rooms per quad (7 doubles, 1 single). Each quad has a tiny hall-way separated on one side by a door to the common room and on ther other, a door to the bathroom. Each room is locked separately and is a separate entity. There are two common rooms per floor. It's more like a suite than a hall is, but you do not have a separate common room for each quad.

Having lived in a quad, I am partial to quad-style (and, if you couldn't tell, know a lot more about them). I happened to get into an amazing quad and got to know my quad and the boys quad across the hall quite well (and I am still great friends with them all). I do not think we would have been such a close-knit group on a hall. It was pretty amazing, we'd go to the dining hall together almost every day, hung out almost day. That being said, you may or may not get onto a quad of people you like, I got lucky.

As far as individual dorms go:
Cutler, Storrs, Pierce and Hitchcock are quad style
Norton, Tyler, Sherman,Raymond, Taft and Smith are hall-style
(but I don't know at this point which of those dorms will still be freshman dorms your year).

Hope this helps.

Casegirl is right. My bad....
Freshman dorms are doubles around shared common rooms. Seems like a suite to me. Sorry for any confusion.

Singles in suites are on Southside for soph year.

The Box and the Quads

There's Clarke Tower too for second year.

I lived in the box yesterday in Raymond (THE BEST HOUSE FOR FRESHMEN!), and I made a ton of close friends. However, I think that living in one of the quads is better because you get to interact with both guys and girls. I feel like I missed out in that sense. I don't regret that I made some awesome friends though.

"The Mom," I would have to agree. They are "suite-style" but they are more like common areas. This is different from the Box dorms which have "study rooms."

I would definitely suggest living in Juniper...it's closer to The Quad and those extra two minutes will really save you. However, the other dorms are closer to Leutner. It's all about preference as well as how cool you are. Raymond is the coolest.

Not sure there is much difference between a "quad" and a "suite", and yes, there are "quads" available to Freshman. Some of the rooms in a quad are doubles and some are singles. The suites on south side for sophomores, such as Kusch, are all single bedrooms.

Also, the old fashioned "hallway" doubles for Freshman can have coed floors, such as Smith.

I'm going to put in a good word for "hallway" dorms; I currently live in Smith and our floor is extremely tight. I'm glad I didn't live in quad-style because I've heard some horror stories from my friends about living with people that they just didn't click with.

FYI Cutler is a second-year dorm next semester. And Smith & Taft have slightly different layouts from Tyler, Raymond, Sherman, & Norton (open common areas vs. study rooms), but both are still hall-style. Smith & Taft also have separated bathrooms, and therefore co-ed floors (highly recommended!!!).

If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

I know I’m opening up a two-year-old thread…
Does anyone know if all of the dorms have music practice rooms in them? Or a piano, specifically? If not, do all students have access to someplace to practice, even if they’re not a music major?
Thanks!

^^^
I can’t remember which freshman dorm it was, but during our tour last August I noticed a piano in a study area on the first floor of one of the dorms. Sorry I can’t be more specific.

i just got addmitted to case a few days ago and i was wondering about the freshmen housing. which house would u guys consider the “best”?

Just want to make it clear:

A quad is NOT the same as a suite.

A suite (at Case anyway) implies private (single or double) lockable rooms that lead to a private common room that only your and your suitemates can access.

A quad implies private (single or double) lockable rooms that lead to a small hallway, accessible to anyone in the dorm, around which the rooms and a bathroom are clustered (think of it as a cul-de-sac). This hallway has a non-lockable door (for semi-privacy, like run-to-the-shower-in-a-towel kind of privacy) that opens out into a common room. The common room is mainly used by people on the floor, but can be accessed by anyone in the building.

@hiltzation:

All dorms, North & South side, have a piano somewhere on the first floor. I believe Wade Commons on North side was converted this year to add music practice rooms and other facilities.

@hiltzation - I have some Case visit notes (incl music info) in another thread.

does anyone know how much the housing deposit is? Also is enrollment and tuition deposit the same thing?
