Freshman Housing

My daughter has been accepted into the engineering program and we are curious about freshman housing. Do all of the freshman live together in specific housing? Any specific housing for engineering? What are her options? Does anyone have any suggestions/advice for a freshman from OOS?

Freshman do not have specific dorms, though there are some Special Living Options that are for freshman only. One is First-Year in Science and Engineering House, which might be of interest to your D. A couple others to look at are Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) House and Engineering House, which are specifically for engineering students, but not necessarily for freshman. Information about the SLOs can be found here-- [Housing: Undergraduates](<a href=“Home Page | LiveOn”>Home Page | LiveOn). The SLOs are a good way for new students to meet others who share their interests (and in the case of engineering students, have similar workloads) and can help make the size of Penn State a little less intimidating. My son lived in E House for two years and I liked the idea of having some upper classmen around to temper the, shall we say, “enthusiasm” of all the freshman who were living away from home for the first time.

Thank you. I found the site for the SLO’s and they look like a good option. From what I have read some posts were saying the East Halls were less desirable and I imagine that has a lot to do with what you mentioned about the students being away from home for the first time…we know her curriculum will be heavy and want her to have the best experience possible her first year…it is always a big adjustment though. With PSU being such a large university the size is intimidating but that also means there are more options. Thanks for the reply.
