How likely is it that a freshman would get into apartment style housing?

Also, how would you rate the kitchens/kitchenettes in any of the apartments/dorms at UMinn? Is Pioneer the only dorm hall with an oven available?

I know a few freshman who got into apartments this past year, but I wouldn’t recommend it. It mainly depends on when you get your housing app in, but living in an apartment would put you with mostly non-freshman, who already have their own friends and may not be interested in making friends with freshman.

I can only speak about Middlebrook’s kitchenettes, but they’re pretty basic. Each floor has a sink and a microwave, but I believe every dorm has a full kitchen that you can reserve for making meals, deserts, etc.

If you’re worried about not liking the food in the cafeterias, you adjust to it. You can always have pizza, burgers, salads and sandwiches, and they are all very accommodating for different types of diets. If you’re worried about not having space or privacy in a res hall, go for a suite. They’re big enough that you can have your own area, but living in the dorms your freshman year will help you adjust to campus and with homework, etc.
