it seems like reading from all the posts in this forum about internships, most freshmen students, even with excellent GPA, cannot get internships at top firms. i am not trying to boast or anything, but i MIRACULOUSLY earned a position at a top financial firm that provides financial news etc. this summer. i was wondering how this will help me in the future path of becoming an i-banker. i attend a top 5 undergrad b-school with a 3.5 GPA right now. i am just really scared that my GPA barely meets the cut-off for i-banking.

any advice will help greatly. and to every freshman: i know what it feels like to pressured to get the internships. i was personally very concerned about my summer plan because if i did not get this internship, i would have no other alternative plans...best of luck.

"providing financial news" doesn't really sound that related to finance. Just take any personal information out of our profile and tell us exactly what you do so maybe we can help? You go to stern like me I see. GPA's generally go down sophomore year as you have to deal with higher caliber students/stricter curve(Edit: I see that you're a transfer, so I dont know how well this applies). You definitely won't get a sophomore year internship at a BB ibank, but could very well get one junior year (if you maintain the same gpa). Next year try to get into an asset management place, a boutique ibank, etc (BlackRock is highly regarded, and recruits alot of Stern Sophomores). Keep in mind though, that a lot of people don't get good internships sophomore year. Make sure you network, thats how I got my internship this year.

thanks matt. just to get more specific, the company that i will be interning for is bloomberg. i thought that this will help because many, if not all, companies rely on bloomberg for financial information. the internship apparently was for juniors/seniors because they want to hire them full-time.

also, do you recommend doing internships during sophomore year during the semester?

I am did one my freshman semster. I mean as long as you don't overload yourself with classes, you be alrite. Although I find that the fall internships are not as intensive as the summer internships. Honestly, I had a hard time adjusting when I first starte my internship cause there were a lot of grunt work to be done for the firm and school, but eventually, I got used to it.
