or

great books 191

math 215

the difference between the two is the last class, math 215 vs anthro 101. i know i don't need more math for ross (since i have math 115/116 credit), but would they like to see something quantitative? at the same time, i'm also worried that math 215 might be a lot of work combined with the rest of my schedule.

i'd appreciate any opinions.

Ross values an applicant’s willingness to take rigorous courses. They also consider the applicant’s quantitative skills. That said, taking MATH 216 would be a better option. You could also try STATS 350, which is relatively easier.

i want to take math 216 but it doesn’t fit in my schedule, and i’d rather take math 286 (the honors version), which is not offered until the winter. and all sections of stats 350 are closed.

any other suggestions?

Everyone here seems to agree that Stats 265 is basicly a better version of 350… See if that fits.

yeah… it actually does fit.
8:30 am lecture though :(

I’ll have 3-8am lectures… You won’t be the only one.

Math 215 can help, but it’s certainly not necessary. I placed into the same classes as you freshman year but didn’t take any Math classes (Stats 350 instead) and I got into Ross. However, I recommend you take Math 215 because:

1.) As long as you keep a good GPA, it will only help on your application. Based on your other placements (Spanish 276, Honors, etc…) that shouldn’t be a problem for you. Ross is more competitive these days, so Math 215 could help.

2.) If you take a schedule that is too easy, you can get bored and lazy, which can also negatively affect your GPA. Believe me. :)

“Everyone here seems to agree that Stats 265 is basicly a better version of 350… See if that fits.”

It’s also a lot harder as it is offered through engineering and cover more material in a more in depth manner than 350. It is intended to set IOE majors up for future stochastics/markov chain/probability and modelling classes. Also, you are competing against a very quantitative bunch on campus.
Having a high GPA is important when you apply for Ross if you are not a hard science/engineering majors… So please evaluate how much risk you want to take for “marginal gain” (look slightly better in terms of rigor)…

"8:30 am lecture though "
You dont have to show up. It’s videotaped. You can watch it anytime. However, only take it if it’s with Garcia-Guzman.
With Gary Herrin…LOL…you’ll hate yourself for choosing that class

yeah, only herrin is offering it this semester. i just saw comments about him on ratemyprof, and they weren’t too great. i don’t think the marginal gain is worth it…

“i just saw comments about him on ratemyprof”

My favorite one: Knows stats like the back of his hand, and expects you do too

ok bump…

i got math 216 to fit into my schedule and decided to forget about taking it honors

can anyone describe what the lab is like?

I can’t answer your 216 lab question. Mainly because I am taking both Math 215 & 216 this fall. I would like to know some information on the class as well.
