We just got back from dropping our DD off at ND and experiencing the Freshman Orientation Weekend. All I can say is WOW! I always thought that ND was a great school, but now I think it is amazing! Our only prior experience with the school was a tour that we took in January after she was admitted, but had not spent any other time on campus. We are Catholic and we loved everything about the school that ties to the spirituality side of their faith. I'm completely sold on the residence hall system and the live-in Rector. There seems to be so much support for the students and I can understand why they have such a high graduation rate. I would love for our DS, who is a Senior this year, to have the chance to attend ND, as well. Unfortunately, his stats are a smidge lower than DDs were, but I hope he will still have a shot at it. I've read stories of sibling not being admitted and how heartbreaking it was when they so wanted to go there with their brother or sister. I'm sure we will find the best fit for our DS, but I have to say that in my heart ND is the perfect place for our DD.

I would have to echo your sentiments. I was amazed at the support system in place. The ‘Frosh-O’ experience was great for the kids as well as the families. We had all of our questions answered, and met so many friendly people from all over the country. Continued to meet people even as we traveled back, easy to spot everyone in the Notre Dame shirts!

Your DS might consider applying Early Action:

As a second choice, perhaps look at the University of Portland, in Oregon, which is a sister school to ND. UP is run by the same religious order, Congregation of the Holy Cross, as ND. Might also be possible to transfer after a couple of years. Portland is a great college town. http://www.up.edu/

@NROTCgrad - DD loved UP as well and that is on DS son’s school list. DD ended up at Notre Dame with a NROTC scholarship!

Congratulations! =D>
