Freshman Schedule Crisis?!!? I don't know what I want?

This past year has just given me so much to think about in terms of the future. I'm going to Pitt in the fall and I have my PittStart (an orientation type deal) next week. I'm panicking because I don't know what classes I should take! The past two years I wanted to be a doctor but after taking AP Biology and AP Chem and not doing well in them, and also being a poor math student, I strayed away from it. I'm now thinking of natropathic medical school because I love the idea of holistic healing and to be honest, I really do have a passion for medicine, I just don't know if i'm smart enough to make it through the classes. I also have a passion for writing and would love to pursue playwriting and screenwriting but I also want to be able to eat when I'm 23. lol. And to throw more mess and confusion into the mix, one thing I do know I want from my college experience is to learn another language so I'm looking into taking Arabic 1 (I plan to study abroad as well because I know you need to be immersed in the language to really pick it up). I've looked at becoming a translator as well. So, if you actually read this confusing mess of uncertainty my question is this:
1. Do you think I should just take bio, chem, and stats, my first semester just to see how I do and if i simply can't make it through, decide against it?
2. Just do what I love and work hard?
I'm very aware of the realities of the economy and the job market and I want to be employable while also managing to enjoy life and not be a walking stress fest. Please help and be honest!

Do you have an intended major right now? If so, take classes that go towards that. Or, if you’re debating between majors, take intro classes in those fields.

You should be able to talk to an adviser at orientation, regardless of whether you have a major in mind or not. Explain your situation to them and see what they say about your course selection.

Thank you, I like your idea about taking intro classes in each of my fields. I’ll definitely take that into consideration.

I do not think taking biology, chemistry, and statistics in the first semester is a good idea from what you indicated above. Why not try biology and chemistry first OR statistics and only one of those science classes for your first semester. Premeds must also take Calculus.

A discussion with your advisor would be very wise on your part.
