What classes are you guys planning to sign up for?

Ughh… I can’t find my Undergraduate Announcement. I suppose I will have to order a new one.

Anyone else in a similar situation? If I were to pay the $2 and order another one, will they give me the new 2010-2011 one or the 2009-2010 one?

Not necessary, it’s all online:

[Undergraduate Announcement, 2009-10 - Undergraduate Announcement](http://www.princeton.edu/pub/ua/index.xml)

You’ll end up with a thousand copies, so you certainly shouldn’t be paying for another.

^ Yah, but that’s the 09-10 one. I want the one I got in the mail and lost (the 10-11) one.

Well, I am guessing you have decided to come to Princeton? If so, welcome and I look forward to meeting you in September!!!

BTW, I didn’t receive a UA at all…

^ Well, it’s still up in the air for me. I really don’t find out until August 19th, but I’m preparing for Princeton anyway by looking at what classes I want to take.

I’m looking at:

CHI 101 Elementary Chinese
FRE 207 Studies in French Language & Style
CHM 201 General Chemistry
PHI 203 Intro to Metaphysics & Epistemology

The first 2 are definites and the other are maybes. I made this list like a month ago and haven’t edited. Actually the last 2 will most likely change.

I’m looking at the Intro to Metaphysics and Epistemology class also! However for me it is a definite. Professor Rosen’s past students praise him!

^HA!
I just don’t like that the courses’ names start with “general” and “intro.” But that’s a stupid reason so I may keep them! Who knows?

Anyone else interested in picking up Chinese at Princeton?

They do!

http://scg.tigerapps.org/reviews/professor/000080895/

Well no worries about the “general” or "intro! You made it into Princeton so don’t take it as a remedial course lol. I researched the books that students read in the past and perhaps will read this upcoming fall and the works were incredibly intriguing.

i don’t think any of us have received the UA 2010-2011 yet? at least i know i haven’t…

I got mine about 2 months ago, but I lost mine!!

Stupid me…

You can always check [Course Offerings « Office of the Registrar](Course Offerings | Office of the Registrar) for course listings and schedules.

I’m definitely taking MAT215 and ECO100, probably ELE201, and hopefully a freshman seminar.

I was thinking about taking Math 215 and 217…but not sure if you can double up on math courses your freshman year.

is the physics 103 / 104 sequence as bad as they make it out to be? it might deter me from majoring in engineering…

Derivate, the MAT majors I talked to advised against doubling in math as a fall term freshman, but said it was pretty reasonable to double in the spring term.

Physics 103/104 is super introductory and very easy. If you’re freaking out about that sequence, you might want to seriously reconsider engineering. Though of course a smarter thing would be to try it out first.

*note: This is actually serious advice.

^^^ are you sure? I read the reviews from the student course guide, they said it was absolutely horrible. I also talked to a lot of students, and they said it was poorly structured and did not explain the concepts well enough. I got a 5 in Physics B…so I should be ok?

You probably talked to people who either then dropped out of engineering or are not near the top of the class.

Also, a course could be structured very poorly yet still be very easy and introductory. Take most of your high school education, for example.

If you’ve taken physics B you should be okay – it’ll basically be topics you already know, except with calculus this time so it actually makes sense. The quality of the class, unfortunately, very much depends on who happens to be lecturing this year and who your preceptor is. (I don’t know anything about Prof. Olsen, sorry.) In short, no it’s not as bad as they make it out to be.
