Freshman Seminars - which one's are good

Current Wake Students:

D would like to know if you have a reccomendation for the best freshman seminar - any suggestions? Also, is there a Prof that is particulary good?
Thanks!! :)

It helps if you pick one related to your planned major. Does she want science, math, english, etc?

science and thanks so much for answering - she asked me to post the question for her.

If Dr. Colyer in the chem department is teaching her seminar on accidental science (I don't believe that that's the actual name of the course, but it's something similar), I've heard good things about it. Unfortunately, my FYS isn't being taught again this year, or I'd recommend it.

Found it! The name of the course is Scientific Serendipity: Accidental Discoveries in Science. I've also heard good things about Dr. Colyer, but I personally haven't had her yet. I know that I was interested in taking this seminar (it was a tie between this one and the one that I ended up taking the next semester) and that it was full by the time I got to register. Most of the seminars being offered by science professors look really interesting (particularly a couple that are offered by science professors that aren't actually science topics). Skimming over the list, I've only had one of the professors offering a seminar, and while I'd definitely recommend her, she's in the English department, so I can't really give any advice as far as professors.

Thanks ginny! D appreciates the feedback and actually that seminar caught her eye initially. Hope she gets in.

If you'd like to find out more about the profs you can check out virtualratings.com -> Wake. Take it with a grain of salt, though.
