Hi! This is my tentative schedule (because I'm a freshman), so I'm not as important (at the moment) compared to Senior's Chance Me. So feel free to leave, or chance. It'll only take a minute :)

Thanks again :)

Geez. You’ve really planned out your next 4 years. I have 2 suggestions for you:

Try taking more AP classes instead of their honors/regular version.

Depth, not breadth. You’ve got a lot of EC’s but it’s better to pick a few you REALLY like and do a great deal for them. It’s better to do it that way instead of so many clubs with just leadership positions that don’t show real depth.

It’s cool that you’re planning ahead, but keep these plans, as you said, “tentative” and flexible. Things come up and changes happen, so make sure you can adapt to those changes.

Thank you so much!!! haha I know… I plan too much :stuck_out_tongue: Procrastination may be in the works…

 1. The reason I planned to not take as many Honors and AP levels are because I have a TON of EC’s (as you can tell). Tennis takes up a lot of time on it’s own, so I thought I’d be over stressed if I took honors in everything.

I think my EC’s are in a few different “categories”: Performing (the guitar, piano, acting, dance), writing (the journalism and writing), diversity (culture club, interact club, DADYO), and some of my own favorite things (Japanese and Tennis). I really do love all of these things, and I don’t want to stop anything T.T

Thanks so much again!

I think I’m not going to do tennis.

I’m good at it yes, I would have made varsity, but my passion lies with Acting and Performance.

Good idea? Bad idea? Please comment :)

damn get off CC and chill for the next 3 years

I wouldn’t drop Varsity tennis when that’s something you’ve done throughout your school career. Very few people have the bragging right of having done a sport since K and they’re still doing it today. Keep it. Plus, you said you enjoy it. Anything you enjoy shouldn’t be dropped. I do agree that the APs would make your app even better though - how rigorous is your schedule compared to the rest of your school?

you drove a holocaust survivor to a women’s conference?

So you are a freshman, cannot drive yet (i assume) but you are planning on driving somebody 30 hours?

I’m sorry, but I wouldn’t list that specifically on your resume.

But, you look fine for good schools. Just keep your GPA up and make sure you score well on the SAT or ACT. If you are looking at schools that require subject tests, make sure you take the AP level (or equivalent) of those classes- my guidance counselor failed to inform me of that.

Haha sorry I didn’t drive… I helped my mom drive. It was at a town around 3 hours away, and I talked to the Holocaust survivor. We stayed overnight, went to the conference, and then drove home again.

Thanks guys  I could take Music Theory AP instead of Instrumental Music, since I am interested in composing. And I think that’s the only change I can allow, given time frame and since I want to take Creative Writing, Journalism, and Drama almost every trimester.

My school makes us take US History in Freshman year, then we can take AP US History after that… odd yes… all my friends at other schools are already taking APUSH, but I’m just taking normal.

I think I’m taking most of the hardest classes offered (it is a college prep school, if that helps). I’m not taking the hardest in Math or Science though, because I’m more of the English/Arts type of person, but I already took Honors Algebra I in 8th grade (if that helps at all). I’m thinking of taking AP and SAT II for Japanese.

I’m sorry about your guidance counselor. I guess they forgot the “guidance” part of the business.

Thanks again!

If it helps at all, I want to be an actress in Japan. Sounds riddiculous, but the numbers add up.

How many Asian roles are there in America? How many people try out for those roles? How many Asian roles re there in Asia? A lot. And I’ve read a few dozen to a few hundred try out, compared to the thousands in America. And Japan has a huge entertainment industry too.

How many APs does your school offer rayna? That’s probably a better question. (: And good luck with your acting! Do you want to teach me japanese? xP

My school offers 16; before you do AP Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, you must take normal level (or honors) Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. For AP Psych, you must be a senior. Like you get to take APUSH after taking US and World History, and like wise in most subjects.

Thank you! Haha sure  I’d love that!

I tried to ask my school for credit for taking Japanese at my local community college instead of Spanish, but they said no >.<

I made it more challenging, like you guys suggested.

Freshman: English I, US History, Geometry H, Physics, Spanish I, Health, Creative Writing I, Journalism I, and Drama I.

Sophomore: English II H, World History H, Algebra II H, Chemistry H, Spanish III H, World Religions, Creative Writing II, Journalism II, Advance Drama I and II, Training for the Professional Actor.

Junior: English III AP, US History AP, Pre Calculus H, Biology H, Spanish IV H, Bible and Western Culture, Journalism II, Training for the Professional Actor

Senior: English IV AP, Music Theory AP, Statistics AP, Psychology AP, Spanish AP, Contemporary Religious Issues, Creative Writing II, Journalism II, and Training for the Professional Actor.

Look good? Remember, I want to go to Carnegie Mellon or Emory the most, if I get into Stanford, then that’s amazing  But it’s not my dream school. My “safety” school is Temple University, since they have a campus in Japan and a major that I’m interested in (communication).

I think you need to live your life and be a kid. This is way too early for this junk. Come back in two years.

haha thanks :P

But I would hate to graduate high school, and look back “wow I took easy classes” or “I should’ve worked harder”, ya know?

So I’m making sure I covered all my bases.

Oh!

And if it helps (at all)…
I was born in S. Korea, and adopted to a Jewish family in the US. (I think it’d be an interesting essay topic).

The small changes in your class schedule mean close to nothing. Besides grades and scores, the only things that colleges really take away from your college (besides obvious ones like, taking 4 years of math and everything with you will have) is # of AP courses (for colleges of your caliber).

If you want Stanford, you need more. “Self taught Japanese” may be a feat, but it’s pretty subjective. If anything, have that stuff in an essay. Get some solid competitions and awards. The only spectacular thing I see is being an ambassador to Japan.

Participation in classes can mean close to nothing (for your colleges). I would say that they are not worth mentinoing in your application. Only awards, etc are worth it. “Acting competition 1st place” “top role in musical…” etc.

Good luck, and don’t forget SATs.

Actually, I think I added 3 APs (or 4) to make a total of 8 AP’s taken.

What about “published a book”? Or “state ranked in tennis” or maybe “over 800 hours of community service”?

Thanks :)

Yes, the community service is spectacular, “published a book” well, you need to say that it sold considerably or was reviewed by scholastic… or something… it’s kind of subjective. State ranked in tennis is absolutely great. Those are real achievements.

Subjective ones… well they sound like "Performed guitar around neighborhood, self taught cello, took ballet classes, helped kids in math… etc. they don’t stand alone. they’d be better in an essay.

haha thanks :)

I’m writing a book, and hopefully it’ll be published by the publishers of Eragon (chance of that happening… not much but xD).

I am hoping to join the elite “dance team” (called something different, but basically what it is) at my dance place.

I also hope to sign with a Japanese agency (for acting, singing, modeling, etc.) soon. I guess that’s an achievement (less then 1% chance, and result from the guitar/piano/dance/acting lessons).

Thanks again!

And… for the self taught Japanese…

Maybe I should put “Pass Japanese Language Proficiency Test Level 1”. That’s a good achievement, right? Esp. for a high schooler who self taught?
