hey guys, anyone have info./experience on a freshman having a car on campus? (specifically, the RW lot by the Village) thanks!

I just got back from War Eagle Day and this ? was asked to the student panel and everyone of them said you do NOT need a car- the shuttle runs ALL the time and it is very accessible- the campus has poor parking so if you don’t live on campus you ride the shuttle- Hope this helps

thanks hlsess. we may have been at the same one. june 6-8? if so, we had different advice/opinions. one said he had a bunch of tickets and a car towing, so he warned about it. then two actually said they loved having their car. hmmm… we were wondering moreso for son to come home. (2 hour drive) the shuttle sounds great and we saw them all over and not just right on campus.

I think it is fine to have a car but you just may not drive it much on campus

My daughter will have her car and drive home during breaks. It is a 10 1/2 hour drive with reasonable breaks built in. Even though I know she may go weeks without driving her car, I want her to have one just in case she does need to travel.

My daughter will be taking her car this fall. She has recently “met” her 3 future roommates via FB. As all of them live 10+ hours away, they are not keeping vehicles on campus. We live just 4 1/2 hours away and my DH will be within 2 hours several times a month on business so it makes sense for us to let her take it. Her roommates have already offered to pay for gas.

I will be attending this fall, and I live about 10 hours away. My parents want me to have the car just in case I need it. From what I see, however, I will probably just be using it during the weekends.

We were at War Eagle Day for rising seniors not Camp War Eagle- from what I understood- if you live on campus you will get a parking spot but if you live off campus it is hard to find a parking spot for class so the students ride the shuttles- I believe they run to the apartments off campus- I don’t understand why you would get a ticket if you a re a student- are you not allowed to park on campus if you don’t live on campus? If my d decides on Auburn she will ahve a car but it doesn’t seem like you really need it except to go home- go to Walmart etc

Students who live on campus have designated parking area. Tickets come when they get lazy and decide to ignore the rules. Those $50 tickets can add up so make sure your child has a clear understanding of the rules. No, they don’t really need a car except for those trips to Walmart or shopping at Tiger Town.

My wife and I have debated this subject before Camp War Eagle and afterwards with my daughter. During the school week we all agree there is not much need for a car. The weekends when my daughter periodically wants to come home/visit friends (2 1/2 hours away) and the ability to explore Auburn are her selling points. Also as another parent mentioned, in case of any emergencies.
My daughter may be different than the protypical college student because she also wants the ability to drive to church on Sundays. The church which she plans to attend has recently relocated this past year from near campus to down North College Street - about 2 miles from her dorm. No Tiger Transit to church. She spoke to the pastor, and the pastor noted most students car pool to the church service.
So, as of now, we are leaning toward allowing her to take the 3rd vehicle to campus and see what happens. We were explicit that all tickets and fines are her responsibilty and accumulation of them would result in loss of the car.

that’s pretty much our exact situation, metroatlantadad.
