I kind of messed up last sem, something like 3.0 unweighted and 3.2 weighted? I had 3 Cs but they were all 78, kind of a shame. I was and still am a wreck, some other distracting things happened.
GPA for second semester is 3.5-ish, could be more but not below that. I’m worried that I’ll just be rejected everywhere, I’m not particularly good in anything yet & only have two honors classes. I used to want to go to Carnegie Mellon or UC Berkeley but that was before everything went to heck, now I’m just wondering if I have a fraction of a chance of getting into a decent college. I know I messed up pretty badly, how high can my GPA rebound to (obvs not getting As in every class starting now but hypothetically speaking)? Will SATs, ACTs make up for a bad freshman year if they’re really good?
You might have a chance at Cal since they don’t look at freshman year GPA. I do kind of agree that you’re screwed for CMU though. Well if you do a calculation, you still have 5 more semesters of school until college apps are due (4 for UC Berkeley). If you get straight As from 10th grade until fall semester of 12th grade, you’ll cap out at a 3.79, which is pretty good. But the main problem is the volume of Cs you ended up with. A lot of good private schools like CMU will look at your transcript and raise an eyebrow. Perhaps you can explain how those ‘distracting things’ affected your performance though, since that may help. Try to get straight As, and get your class rank to within the top decile.
