ya that is good for me too. With freshman year my weighted GPA would be like 4.1, but w/o freshman year, it would be like 4.4, so I am stoked!. FYI, Princeton and Berkeley dont use freshman year grades either.

stanford_dude

My school is the EXACT same way, and Stanford takes it all into account. I wan't even top 5% ranked, but I got in.

Quick question about calculating GPA. On the application (or somewhere else, I forget), it said that nonacademic classes are not calculated in the GPA. I took PE and got an A in it, which actually lowered my GPA (go figure) so would that not count? Also, would Jazz Choir be considered nonacademic (I get fine arts credit for UCs).

Well, if you're a complete dumbass, they obviously won't forgive that. Seriously, Stanford has so many people that just waste everyone away....people with low GPA's should just give up now, take it from someone who got in.

what do you consider low GPA RajamundoFlavor???

I think 3.75 and up is ok if you have a lot of e.c. and if you have a rising trend in GPA along with good test scores, etc. That way it's like, yeah I guess he did bad one time but that's ok, he had a lot of stuff going. Otherwise...it's a dangerous game.

Then again, that's for most IVY colleges, but for Stanford, they're all about high test scores, high GPA, along with other stuff etc. etc. So best bet would be to go 3.9 and up, otherwise.....well like I said before, have a LOT of other stuff.

are talking unweighted or weighted?

Unweighted

out of a 4.0 unweighted scale

Sorry, could somebody please answer my question (see post #23)?

Dude, stop spazzing out. Each college does it their own way, if you're good, you're good. If you're not, you're not. It's as simple as that. Your PE lowering this, your other class raising that, etc. etc. it doesn't matter dude. If you've got what it takes, they'll see it no matter what.

Then why worry about anything? The point is to know where I stand, hun, and while it may not matter to you, I do want to know. Curiosity leads to great things in the world, and you should never tell anybody to not wonder or question things. I hardly think that asking a question is considered "spazzing out" as you put it.

And by the way, it's dudette.

Ha, I'm sorry. Listen, I'll PM you something. Read it

my school doesn't calculate GPAs. what's the diff between weighted and unweighted?

weighted is with honors and AP classes counting as extra poinrs. Unweighted is without the extra points from AP classes

I don't think choir would count as an academic class, so it wouldnt be figured into the GPA

so would Stanford count a PE class at a City college?
