Hello everyone I'm just another senior high school student now awaiting college decisions in April.
Today, my mid year report got sent out and I was just wondering if anybody might be able to tell me whether ivy league or
top tier schools will see these grades as sort of lacking. I know I got quite a lot of B's so I'm worried. :'(
Also, will colleges see my mid year senior grades as slacking off since I got two B's?

Up until now my grades have been:

9th:
World Civ. A
Plane Geometry A
Japanese A
Physical Ed A
Spanish 2 honors B+
English 1 honors A-
Biology honors A

10th:
US History honors A-
Spanish 3 honors B+
Japanese 2 honors A
English 2 honors A
Chemistry honors A-
algebra 2 honors B+
physical ed A

11th:
English 3 honors A
Precalculus Honors A
Physics Honors A-
AP US History B+
AP Chemistry A
Physical ed A

12th:
Accounting Honors -A
AP Calculus AB -B+
AP Literature -B+
AP Japanese -A
AP Biology -A
Physical Ed A

I did start off from mostly non honors classes and slowly worked up, trying to build a rigorous courseload. At our school, the maximum amount of AP's possible for junior in case anybody wonders why I took so few before senior year. My unweighted GPA will ultimately be around a 3.81~3.82. I know its not the most stellar GPA but will colleges still accept up to this point?
I am Asian too so I know that will hurt me. I think my extracurriculars and awards might be up to level for ivy league schools.

A B+ here and there is fine, and a 3.8 is fine (although it appears that PE is inflating that number) – you’re at least at the point where the rest of your application can come into play. APUSH and AP Lit are famously tough courses.

In other words, if you don’t get admitted to XYZ school, it’s probably not because of the Bs. Best of luck.

It will hinge on your major and the other strengths in your app, plus uncontrollable factors like geo diversity. So, we don’t know. Remember how fierce the competition is.

1) what “trend” are you talking about? You’re consistently excellent – and this portends well for an excellent collegiate career.

2) “I am Asian too so I know that will hurt me” – don’t swallow this so easily. Anyone who applies to competitive schools is facing tough odds. The key for everyone (incl non-Asians) is to be unique. If you’re not unique, whatever ethnicity you are, don’t expect to be noticed amongst 10s of thousands of super qualified applicants. (as you can tell, I don’t think much of the supposed anti-Asian bias arguement)

At this point, all that can be done has been done. Stay off of CC. Enjoy your friends and family and classes. This is the last time you’ll ever be a care-free HS student. Why waste a second worrying about your “odds” or who’ll choose you? Really. When I was at this point in my Senior year, I was having a blast – and determined to leave HS w/o any regrets. Worrying about college was about 180 on my list.

Ultimately, I think you’ll be fine – whatever institution prints your diploma 4-5 years from now. Good luck to you

T26E4 thank you for that last statement. I think I really needed that. I have been on college confidential way too much nowadays and I didn’t even know it!
