I will be a freshman in Pratt next year. Is the Intro to Engineering class worth the extra work first semester? Also, is it a class that is difficult to make an A in? I listed Electrical when I applied, but I’m thinking about doing Civil and Environmental. I also plan on doing the Energy minor. Would it even be possible to double major in Econ and do the Energy minor?
EGR 90 (Intro to Engineering) is not considered a “real” engineering course. It’s a half credit seminar that is just supposed to expose you to the various majors Duke offers so you can make an informed decision – not what I’d call a heavy workload. Mostly just listening to presentations. They don’t even give you a letter grade. You get a Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory. So, if we want to learn more about Pratt offerings and are unsure, then it wouldn’t be a bad idea to take the course. No need to worry about the extra work.
Yes, it’d be possible to double major in Econ and do Energy minor, but would require some advanced planning. Talk to your advisor about it and map out what a potential schedule might look like.
Thanks!
