So my son has been on campus for approx. 72 hours, and I am stressing about finances for next year. He is attending a private university as a chemistry major, and biochem minor. We ended up with loans equal to 50% of the sticker price to get him in the door, but am wondering what the options are for scholarships going into your sophmore year. I am seeing so many that are for HS seniors, but how do you find them when you've already got the ball running? Also, what advice for getting school based grants and scholarships going into the year? We had a foreclosure, so loans for next year will be slim and hard to obtain. I was a single parent most of his life until a couple of years ago, and his "step" dad is not contributing and bio Dad is not in the picture. Total gross income is about 85K, but with a good chunk in medical bills as son has a birth defect that left him with only 1/2 his permanent teeth , so we have had years of orth/dental work we are still paying off, and going forward.
Any advice, any place to turn, any suggestions would be great and helpful.. this is my first post and I look forward to joining the communty throughout the year !
