I'm clueless when it comes to scholarships

Hi, this is my first post but I've been here so much lately reading the posts. I have a question. My son received a letter today awarding him the "Michigan Tradition Award." It's for 40k. We're in-state. Is that considered a "good" scholarship?

Thanks!

Any money is good money! ;) (Is it from UM or MS? per year, or 10k per year? Just curious.... It's all good.)

It's 10k per year and it's from University of Michigan. And you're right any money is good money. I'm just curious because one of his friends told him that it's a "full ride."

How much would UofM be otherwise - tuition+housing?

Tuition for UofM would be very different between in-state and out-state students. 10k per year (40k for four years) can certainly be a full ride for an in-state.

Tuition and fees: $10341 in-state. This was his first award letter and he's applied for other scholarships - that we should hear about at the end of this month.
The waiting IS the hardest part:-)

The following are the costs from their website. The 10K/year scholarship is a good one and congrats to your S. It's essentially a 'full-ride' for tuition but there'll be other costs in housing (unless he commutes) and books, etc. Regardless, it's a good scholarship.

Tuition & Fees - $10,447
Room & Board - $8,518
Books & Supplies - $1,048
Personal & Miscellaneous - $2,054
Total Budget - $22,067

Thank you so much ucsd_ucladad. I appreciate you posting that info. I get more nervous for my S than he does about this stuff. Thanks again!

congratulations on the scholarship!
